1-week old 770 (latest OS2006 firmware) which worked very nicely in my home with a Linksys WRT54G router in WPA-PSK mode. That is, worked very nicely for about 5 days and then stopped working (read on).
Configured to run under DHCP.
Configured to work with a cell phone (Treo 650), home Wi-Fi network, and my work Wi-Fi network (another Linksys router). All worked fine for a few days, then kablooooey!
Connectivity through the home Wi-Fi network to the outside work no longer works with 770. I am able to get connected to the network, but I can't get to the outside world. Well, with one significant exception! Internet radio still works beautifully. But web browsing, email, Gizmo, and RSS feeds all claim a "network problem" or other such equivalent-sounding thing.
Connectivity to internal network systems work just fine, but outside the walls, they do not work (again, except internet radio).
Tried resetting modem, router, and 770 numerous times, but to no avail. Tried deleting all the connectivity accounts and set up a new one (with a totally different name). Tried clearing the entire cache of everything in the browser.
Tried pulling the battery and power cable for over a hour.
Tried running with a static IP instead of DHCP. Tried setting up connectivity with my router under a new connectivity account but removing all security (no WEP, no WPA, nothing).
None of any of the above steps gets my browser or other apps to work! But, again, Internet radio still keeps chugging along fine when I want to test connectivity to the outside world. Interestingly enough, I can still connect to my WPA-PSK-protected work network and through my Sprint session on the Treo 650.
Even more interesting is the fact that I can disconnect my Sprint session on the Treo 650 and I can continue to surf using my home wi-fi network, but only the domain that I was currently on (using the Sprint session). For example, if I surfed on Sprint to FoxNews, then I would be able to disconnect Sprint, connect my home WiFi, and continue to surf FoxNews domain sites. Any other site would result in "network error" messages. Sounds like a DNS-caching issue to me. If I am on the domain with my Sprint account, it seems to let me continue surfing through Wi-Fi on that domain. As soon as I step outside that, it causes me to get these network errors. Not sure why the internet radio continues to work, though.
It appears as though either the browser cache, IP stack, or WiFi stack on the 770 is corrupted or otherwise hosed.
Sadly, I don't really have a fix for this and it renders the device essentially unusuable in my home! I have yet to go as far as reflashing the original, but it seems as though that might be my only next step....and possibly my LAST step with the Nokia Internet Tablet "family of products."
They definitely have something wrong with the connectivity stack and there is no way that they should let this continue! It appears as though this also happens on model 800 units as well as numerous model 770 units. I can't believe that they are pulling support for an 18-month-old device like thiis!
Thanks for listening.
(Obviously, if you have something new for me to try, then let me hear so. But, otherwise I was just writing this for other people's benefit, should they be experiencing similar behaviors.
