By the way, great app. I would lile to move it's position in the status bar as discussed in this thread. I want to move it nearer to the top so it doesn't get scrolled off the bottom of the status bar when there are a lot of activities going on. Only the built-in functions are listed in '/ect/hildon-desktop/status-menu.plugins' does anyone know how to do that?

Thanks,

fred

Hi,

you can rearrange the position by editing the .desktop, to do it you must be root.
You can simply adding these two lines to get a new position:
X-Status-Area-Position=1
X-Status-Menu-Position=1

By adding these two lines the quicklaunch item will appear in the first available position on the statusbar menu.

Could you be more specific about "the .desktop"? (I mean, the location of the file) and if it REALLY shows all the status menu items (2G/3G applet, Quick Launch applet, Simple Brightness applet) unlike the /ect/hildon-desktop/status-menu.plugins file which only shows the applets that came preloaded with the N900.

Thanks

Sorry, I forget to mention it. The file to modify is this:
/usr/share/applications/hildon-status-menu/quick-launch-sb.desktop

I understand this, can I create a new position at number 4 say so the first couple of items remain in place. I suppose I could just try it.

Thanks,
Fred

Ok, there was a misunderstanding.
I'll try to be more clear.
Edit the file :
/etc/hildon-desktop/status-menu.plugins
add these lines :

[quick-launch-sb.desktop]
X-Desktop-File=/usr/share/applications/hildon-status-menu/quick-launch-sb.desktop
X-Status-Menu-Position=1

Modify the value of X-Status-Menu-Position to the position you like more.

Hope it helps now.

Regards.

Nice, but besides that, "our problem" (I've seen 2 or 3 persons with the same doubt) is that IN THAT FILE we don't see ALL the applets... I want to reposition also the brightness applet and the 2G/3G and they are nowhere to be found in that file....

what should we add to that file to "control" the positioning of those apps too?

thanks a lot mate (Y).

I found the names of the installed applets in:
/usr/share/applications/hildon-status-menu.

Once you find the name of the applet you want to move, just edit the file /etc/hildon-desktop/status-menu.plugins the way that b0unc3 described:

[NAME_OF_THE_APPLET_HERE]
X-Desktop-File=/usr/share/applications/hildon-status-menu/NAME_OF_THE_APPLET_HERE
X-Status-Menu-Position= X

where in NAME_OF_THE_APPLET_HERE you obviously put the name, and in X you put a number that will represent the postion into the status menu .

Worked like a charm, thanks. I know i can move other things around as well but will live with the defaults until I want to change something else.
