Hi all, my 770 (currently .8 - made in germany) Currenly gets around a day on standby before dropping to two bars on the battery indicator.

I normally leave it on, with just the hard cover over the screen. Am I missing something? After about 2 days on standby, it's flat.

Weird.

Well its promised to last 3 hours...

But for me if I use it only occassionnally it has used only 1 bar in 2 days (the nights its off). Battery is like under a week old.

I have experienced similar battery life. I would guess that I can do about 2 (maybe 3 on a good day) hours of browsing (1/2 contrast) before my 770 dies. My roommate at college also splurged on a 770, but his battery life seems much better than mine (probably 3-4+ hours). For what it is worth, mine was made in Estonia, not Germany, though.

I've just started having battery problems. I used to only have to charge it every 3 or 4 days of off and on use. Now it's dead first thing every morning.

I fully charge it. Use it a little throughout the day. Put it away with the cover on. The next morning, nothing.

Anyone else seeing this trend, or do I just have a bum battery? I've had the thing for over a month and just noticed the battery life problem.

I leave mine in offline mode in hibernation during the day (cover on). Usually I plug it in when I get home and unlpug it in the morning when I leave. It gets about 2-3 hours of eBook reading, games, etc on the commute to work and back. Today, after reading an eBook for 45 minutes, the battery died.

I didn't look at the bar beforehand, but it's possible the kitten decided the plug was a toy and pulled it far enough out of the wall that it wasn't charging anymore. Is that a cell phone battery it's using? How much to get a second?

Look for a BP-5L (hopefully a 1500 mAh instead of the 1300 mAh models I've seen). Actual Nokia batteries can be kind of pricey ($49), although clones can be found for under $12. I've noticed certain applications don't sleep properly, and will completely drain a battery overnight (Rhythmbox for one). If you have problems with the unit draining itself too quickly, try restarting it and then going into offline mode and see if it makes a difference. Obviously don't start any apps before putting it to sleep :-)

I have heard speculation that the DSP chip stays on while in standby mode sometimes and drains the battery. I suspect that if you leave a bit of time after closing all your apps that use sound before you put the cover on, your standby time might improve. I know on my 770 you can hear a slight buzz if you put your ear next to the speaker just after the 770 plays a sound that stays for 30 seconds or so. I suspect that if you put the cover on after the buzz stops, the battery life will improve.

Some interesting info here including the suggestion that Li-Ion batteries start aging from date of manufacture rather than based on usage. Some people starting with older batteries might account for the varying battery lives also.
