I was thinking about purchasing the Nokia LD-1W Wireless GPS for use with my 770. However, I am not sure how well it will work. The only software I have found is GPSDRIVE and it looks a bit tricky to work as it is still in development stages. Anyone else out there thought of GPS or have any suggestions / experiences to share?

I recently bought bluelogger gps from delorme. Not for the purpose of the nokia 770..though I did look into it. Seems that gpsdrive lacks any useful maps for navigating at street level. It seems that you have to use images as maps right?...at that point it would take a lot of memory to store maps.

I have used a Rikaline 6033 GPS and it works very well, it is probably the best out there because it has a 32 channel receiver so it can get a lock from cold in 30 seconds flat, and from warm in 2-5 seconds. I would definately recommend it over anything else, no point in getting a brand name for this type of device.

As for GPSDrive, well it is stunning in that it works at all, and at the moment it has some drawbacks which I'm sure will be fixed but when they are done I think it will be of good use to me.

The main drawback is that the images need to be 1024x768 which means that at times the position cursor moves off the screen. In zoom mode it pages fine but again moves off at certain times.

I am using some very good UK raster maps, I shan't elaborate but see this file for more info.

Anyone try porting this? I could certainly handle TomTom Go on my 770!

Looks like TomTom is a proprietary, non-open source app, so porting it isn't an option. You'll need the source for it.
