This update reallys seems to be taking time. I guess thats problem with openSource software, everyone knows the internals of lifecycle and causes people to go crazy speculating!

I do hope that it does come out soon as I'd really like to be able to video call.

There's no mobile phone company in this world that announces updates before the release. Heck Samsung or SE don't usually even announce them when they are released the rare times they got updates.

I honestly still wonder why people cry over this fw. It's not going to change the phone. Most of us seem happy with it because we knew what we where buying. Open source phone with best browser, great screen, best multitasking with WebOS and great community around it.
I Completely agree with you Tissot.
I do admit that i got sucked up into the frenzy of PR1.2 despite not even having my n900 a month yet however now i feel more relaxed and able to wait for nokia to take there time over this update and make it a good one. however if as some people are saying we have to wait up to or even over a year for it i do hope nokia will make the repository packages available again as i have a growing list of apps that want updating that are currently unable to do so, and also i have been unable to install a few new ones because of this as well.

Really? Apple & Android both have, so... only about half of the mobile phone (smartphone) market has.

BLANKET STATEMENTS FTW!

Shame this update offers so little to serious users who want more than an expensive toy to play with. Some of us have been sold this device as a tool for everyday use, what a massive disappointment!

Sorry to say it but Maemo is nothing short of pathetic when it comes to business / real life use.

Very poor email, very poor calendar, non existent office tools, battery life is unforgivably bad. App development for the N900 seems to have all but stopped, the ovi store for the N900 is a complete an utter disaster. The only way to get the software you need is by downloading some half arsed app from extra dev which is bound to screw your device. SORT IT OUT NOKIA!

Well, at least we will have something to do with the last days on Earth before the end of the world at 12.12.2012...

If it came out earlier than that there will be threads speculating about PRX.X anyway...

Exactly. You're completely right, but will get lambasted on this forum. Too many people that won't face reality.

There are some great apps (or will be soon) - Easy Debian, Katana, Shepherd, Emulators, Keepass, etc, but I still can't get over how bad the BASIC functionality is.

Email / Calendar all but fail when you lose data connection. Really? How can that not be a design consideration to have offline caching?

I have to fight with the phone just to answer a call. When I try to hit answer the phone decides that it will flip to portrait, so I have to stare & wait for the orientation to adjust the UI so I can press the button. Sometimes it tries to flip immediate back to landscape then AGAIN to portrait; in these times I end up missing the call, because I can't answer the damn phone in time.

That's why the killer app for this thing will be when Android is ported. I do like the hardware (brick that it may be), but I need reliable office tools.

Even the iPhone continues to improve its enterprise support... a CONSUMER device!?!? It will have multiple exchange account support in 4.0. Where is that for Maemo? "Fixed in Harmattan"?

That's why this thread is so popular... People are desperate to have a device they sort of enjoy do what they reasonably expect. Openness only gets you so far.

Or perhaps not everybody has exactly the same requirements from a phone?

Email maybe, but I don't see any network dependency whatsoever with calendar. This hasn't caused me any issues yet anyway, as I've never been offline when I've wanted to read email.

Then disable the auto-rotate. I don't see any point in it myself, so've never enabled it.

That's hardly a killer app - it's a killer OS. And I'm not sure how good Android is when you don't have access to any of the Google tools (as those are not licensed on any other handsets).

Anyway, I can quite understand that the N900 doesn't meet all your requirements, but please don't go claiming that those of us who are quite happy with what it does cannot "face reality" or are not "serious users".

Well, Nokia has something cooking for the rest of the world, my guess is the new OVI suite 3, check here: http://events.nokia.com/everyoneconnect/

Maybe they specifically delayed PR1.2 to coincide with this to show a new found TLC between their products.

Just my own wild guess, either way it's in only 16 hours from now.

Personnaly I like the Calender very much in small details, using it. Compared to a Blackberry it is much quicker to make a new appointment IMO. I use and sync only one calender flawlessly with Office 2007. E-mail is fine for me too, using a Dutch provider and Gmail, what is your problem?

As for calling: change in settings the way the phone app is orientated, if it does not work for you.
And when you really have to wait before the screen is built up turning to portrait mode, you might consider deleting history in MicroB (really, that's a bug in some way), check your free space in rootfs, reboot or reflash. When this does not work, bring it back to the shop for repair..
Just my opinion, sorry.
