like I said, I wrap it around so it's touching the back, and what's worse - a scratch on the case or not being able to get into my house?

You know, some people here we get someway nervous even at imaging a scratch on our precious, even on its back

I don't trust the lanyard hook. I fitted the 5800 wrist strap with the plectrum (sp) to mine when I first got it. The strap became unhooked and my N900 fell off bad times. luckily I was standing next to my bed at the time so the phone had a nice soft landing good times.

It'd be a tad odd to put the mic that close to the earpiece, no?

In all seriousness, the mic is between the headphone jack and stylus holder.
