I believe there are many ways to do this (using periodic runs, perhaps using udev hook, using a script/program that runs all the time and either monitors or listens for dbus events, etc..) but none of them is simple enough.

Perhaps this can be a push for you to have a deeper look in n900 and in scripting/programming. It is fun! Really! :-)
i know what you mean, but i think its mabye a bit beyond me .... i might have a bit of a look inot it though when i have time!

Hi,

Just installed this cool app, and had an idea (sorry I haven't read through everything in this thread, so it may have been suggested already) it'd be cool if you could link things like Bluetooth ON/OFF/Visiblity and Online status, and maybe even the FM Transmitter, to the activities too.

So for example, you go to "Car" mode, and it switches on Bluetooth, and the FM transmitter (set to X frequency) and set's you online status'.

But I'm not sure that's within the remit of "Desktop Activity Manager" since they aren't strictly desktop items!

It's a status-menu applet. Just go to the status menu.

See the screenshots here.

The status menu area is scrollable (which is not visible at first). Try scrolling it and see if it is bellow other applets.

Hello there,

I just uploaded a new version of D.A.M. to extras-testing. The major difference of this version is that it restarts hildon-home (it kills it) when switching desktops.

While using N900 I came to believe that hildon-home has memory leaks. Perhaps it's just a problem of its widgets, but they seem to make the system much slower and increase memory usage. I thus changed D.A.M. a bit to restart (kill) hildon-home when emptying the desktops.

You're all encouraged to test the new version. If all works well you may see (as a sideeffect) a performance increase to your system because of the restarting of hildon-home.

Please report back success/failure. I'm somehow afraid of uploading a program to extras that kills hildon-home (it restarts by itself).
