I love Evopedia. I'm using it with the latest dump, wikipedia_en_2010-01-16. You know what I wish? I wish I had a dump of IMDB that worked with Evopedia...

Hi all,

I still have a problem with evopedia and the german dump.

I installed evopedia 0.3.0, downloaded the german dump (http://evopedia.info/dumps/wikipedia...26.zip.torrent, 2.471.212.452Bytes, md5sum of the zip-file: a330c072ab3f47935ee30791830439b2) and copied the unzipped dump into /home/user/MyDocs.

After starting evopedia I pointed it to this folder, but it only shows me the content of the folder.

What is going wrong, or what am I doing wrong here?
Cheers

Could you please send me
1) a screenshot of evopedia showing the folder
2) a copy of your metadata.txt inside of this folder
3) the output of evopedia_starter.py run from the command line (you have to press the exit button inside evopedia to ensure that it is not already running)?

Furthermore, did you install 0.3.0 or 0.3.0 RC3, i.e. did you use the package from Extras or from Extras-devel?

@Jannis
I have german dump, too. I put it on internal memory root, not in mydocs. First I opened Evopedia, I had to choose the folder of the dump. After this I saw the beginning of the content table.

You can pm me, if german is easier

Hi crei & teddy3,

thank you guys. In the meantime I deinstalled evopedia and reinstalled the 2.99/3.0 version. This one works fine for me.

This app is really cool. I can browse any article when I'm moving (I'm using pre-paid plan; don't have a 3G data plan). I am really impressed on the project and appreciate it.

I have some questions.

Sometimes, when I search a certain term, the result page says, "ERROR - Page not found". It means that the term is already indexed but it does not have an actual article for the term.
For example, "Machine Learning" term in "wikipedia_en_2010-01-16" dump

And the other question is about the dump.
I found that there is an original dump from wikipedia ("http://dumps.wikimedia.org/") and the dump for evopedia is different from the original wikipedia dump (also different from Aard dictionary?). In that case, is there any way to make a dump from other dumps (a kind of own wikipedia?)

The problem you mention is caused by the dump creation process, it simply contains some errors, sorry for that. I hope that the next dump will not have these problems.

The "database backup dumps" from http://dumps.wikimedia.org are actually used to generate the evopedia dumps. They have to be (mainly) converted from Wikipedia markup to HTML, indexed and recompressed. How to run this process yourself is explained on the wiki page http://wiki.maemo.org/Evopedia, although this information is a bit outdated. You get better results if you download the distributed dump process client from http://dumpathome.evopedia.info/client and run the individual jobs in scripts/dumpathome.sh: First both import jobs, then createdump and finally package. If you want, I can tell you more about it.

Unfortunately, I don't know which format the aard dictionary uses.

I've some problem. This evening I updatet Evopedia to the latest version 0.3.2 succesful. Then, on the desktop, the icon was not there. After a reboot, the icon is still not there. Also on the menu the icon is not there. But system says it's installed. Reinstall is therefore not available.
What can I do to get the icon back?
