If true, what are the implications for N900? Ongoing support? improved functionality?

If true, this perhaps suggests that Meego might be some way off yet. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Maemo was going to be implemented on 'top end' devices and Symbian would be used elsewhere.

Anyone know anything more?

4 inch screen hardly sounds like "entry level". So, if any kind of entry level, it could be relative to the other Maemo/Meego devices in the planning. And they are just using the word Maemo more or less interchangably with Meego (as is basicaly even Nokia) so I would read absolutely nothing to Meego's availability based on this.

The trend at the low-to-mid end seems to be towards larger-screened devices that support social networking apps. Touch screens are perceived to be desireable as well, so if the price was right the device could be viable.

My understanding is that Meego is some way off being a polished, customer-ready product. Could a cheap Maemo device act as a stop-gap?

There's so much confusion about Meego, Moblin, Harmattan, Maemo, Qt that i'm not buying it being Maemo 5. Actually i can guarantee that it's not Maemo 5.

Nokia said that will launch a Meego device this year, and according the news the order for the Taiwan company was scheduled to begin shipment by 2H/2011. They probably won a contract for a Meego entry-level device, compared to the high-end device which Nokia probably already contracted some other manufacturer.
