We need a flexible display technology. 3" in your pocket, 10" unfolded. :-)

"I'd buy THAT for a buck"

We need modular devices.

I would like one with Win 7 starter, then there is access to a ton of apps and emulators already available. Assuming they allow usb controllers and file transfers without the lamea55 Zune interface. I will not buy an Apple product or Zune due to the need to use proprietary interfaces.

It has... Fast, energy efficient connectors pose a challenge. It is easier to have processor, memory, GPU on the same chip. But some smart way to achieve modularity should be easier than "elastic" screens. AI's touchbook is an attempt in the right direction, unfortunately horribly mis-marketed.

Above 4-4.5", it won't be pocketable anymore... so you gotta rethink your usecases. Unless you travel with a manpurse that can only fit 7" tablet, then might as well go for a 'proper' sized 10" one.

One could argue that if you go for a proper sized 10''(+) screen, then you could as well throw in a proper keyboard (like in a laptop)... or an even more proper 40'' screen (like a TV)...

All I am saying is that it remains to be proven that there is an actual use case for a 10'' tablet just as much as for a 7'' one.

@sopwith: I think it has to do with the source documents. A 10" pad can reproduce A4-sized documents in more natural fashion. Web pages were also designed with that size in mind.

Yes, a small screen with a high enough pixel density of course can reproduce all the details; but it will still be physically too small (much higher dpi than originally intended).

So in the end, I guess it depends on what contents you're planning to use the tablet with.

Sure... The only device I know of that is good for A4-sized documents is the Kindle DX. This is however a very limited usecase.

Web content should be fine on anything 5''+, if properly formatted, IMO.

Like I said, it depends on your usecase...
I find myself reading a lot of magazines on a 9.7" tablet... and most PDF and docs are formatted for A4\letter pages.

Web content should be fine on anything 5''+, if properly formatted, IMO.
Without resizing? Displayed with fonts that you don't need to squint to read?

They started out targetting 14"-15" screens with 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution afterall.
