For anyone else struggling with this, browse to this site with your 770 and then click on "Click to Install".
http://downloads.maemo.org/product/gnumeric/
It will automatically add the follow repository for you:
http://www.maemo.org.br/platform/apt/

I don't know what the dependencies are or what repositories I need to have in the catalog manager. All I get is a message that says "Package is incompatible with current software".
