I don't think this has anything to do with business plans. Flak from users alone is basically enough to offset some Android patch or somesuch minor nonsense in a business plan. If they wanted sync, they could just have pushed 1.2 out and then pushed a 1.2.1 or 1.2.5 when needed.

IMO there are only two things that could keep 1.2 back. Either it has some horrendous bug (percent brickage) and they can't release / are re-integrating each patch to see the hole OR someone decided that a final act like breaking monolithic FW or embedding some tech was worth the two-day extra wait and now it's proven to be a bit of a handful.

Since it's frozen a while now it's not features. And since SDK was rolled, QT was blocked, etc, that smelled like final preparations, meaning something likely broke suddenly. Someone commited changes on Friday evening?

I heard it'll come out as soon as apple releases the Iphone 4G.

Sorry, but please - do some thinking.

Maemo is a commercial OS developed in a semi-open fashion, the existence of PR1.2 was sort of known before PR1.1 was even out - "fixed, but not for the next update".

This means that you're seeing something *in development*.

In the real world, commercial products aren't just plonked down in a finished state, they go from nothing - to something - which is then tested until it's in a finished state which can be commercially released.

This isn't to say that the process couldn't be improved further - it could. But criticising the one part of the process that is working well (your knowing about this update *now*) is the wrong way to go.

I agree with w00t, however, i'd give people the option to choose between the red and blue pills (heh) i mean, if somebody deliberately wants to break the device, give it a big fat warning and allow them to download and use/troubleshoot/report a bug/start a nuclear war. Just make sure that warning is sooooo big that the average guy doesn't even dare to download (or perhaps make a download link like d3d3Lmdvb2dsZS5jb20= and if you can't decypher it you can't download it...) (Btw decyphering this teaches one how to solve problems )
