you summed that all up quite nicely Thomas.
which brings further questions.
should i instal debian? what are some applications i can run if i do? and will installing it change the UI of the device?.
also, as i said i am currently using a blackberry bold. maybe not a question for you guys, but how can i move my saved messages and contacts from my blackberry to my N900?
they both use a micrSD, but i dont think i can save txts to the card..

Contact transfer was a bit of a trouble for me..
If nothing works, here is a long way:
Sync with google contacts
export the contacts .. i think its .csv or some similar format
import it in outlook
sync outlook with N900...
But im sure someone will tell you an easier way..
also, if you want instant facebook notification, you have to leave your email to sync very often..
a simpler way- and easy on battery- is to set facebook to text you the notifications
edit: I looooveeee the way Blackberry deals with facebook and emails.... Nothing can beat that.... Had a storm2, but I didnt like the clicky screen
