I think the transitional animations within the maemo 5 o/s, for example when switching to and from the phone app, take too long.

Is there any way to shorten/remove them?

Thanks.

I think this can be solved by modifying the transitions.ini

There's a thread on that; You can find it using the search function in the forum.

sudo gainroot
find / -name -transition.ini -print
it permit to find the path to transitions.ini:
/usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini
to make a backup:
cp /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.old
To edit transitions.ini:
vi /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini
(You can concat command lines by vi `find / -name -transition.ini -print`)
to modifie the text:
ctrl+c
to save the text:
ctrl+c then type :wq then enter
But you can too modifie the text by nano (apt-get install nano) then nano `find / -name -transition.ini -print`
Sorry for my english!

An application called Transition Control is available in -devel that does just this, with UI. It's stable.

Ermm..I think there's a bug here..phone seems to get stuck on portrait mode (not in a good way) every time I exit the phone app..

Tried uninstalling the app..no use..still get the new transitions + the portrait bug..

Any suggestions?..sorry for being quite the noob..

check to see what you done to the rotation setting.

other than that, restart desktop button on my phone didn't really work, a reboot was needed to apply all settings and stop what you're describing. put transitions back and play more, its harmless

I run every setting in tansition control at 0 apart from rotate is 90 and max blank is 20, much faster menus etc

Try the maemo-freak forums. (You have to sign up to see it.)

They have a quite large forum on modding that has stable modified transitions.ini file.
