Hi All a friend of mine is looking for some help here is his request

He could download my shutter widget, then start his work based on that.
Does he already have a configuration file with his raw code in it?
Then just add that config file to his lirc config and extend shutter for his device - not much work indeed.
Or even simpler, abuse one of the existing remote configs coming with shutter (they are in /opt/tomch.com/shutter). He must just rename my original file for the cam he sure doesn't need, then insert his own config file and rename it to the same remote and command names that I use.

Actually it's a bit more complex than that.

As I said, I want to send a raw (pulse space encoded) IR signal, in the format used by the lirc conf files, (like using an "irsend SEND_ONCE blah blah...") but without having the configuration file. I want to pass the code as an argument (or a file as an argument) to the program.

I might just rewrite irsend to do what I want, but it's time consuming.

Why don't you work with a "variable" config file? Simply write the argument into the config file before calling irsend the usual way.
Then do /etc/init.d/lircd reload
Now issue your command using IRSEND

Depends a bit on performance/timing needs, if you tell us a bit more we might help better.

I've written code to generate the IR pulses... though that's not working just now so this might all be a moot point anyhow. So not worth spending effort on this part of the problem for now.
