I think what we will see is Maemo running on iPhone, due to the former's open source nature.

Already happend with Android:

Lol.

More like a sows ear out of a colostomy bag. (Silk purse it ain't)

Makes me wonder if my N900 is truly the same as some of the people on these forums.

There aint any need to be hyper. Atleast quote what i wrote.

your reading comprehension skills are poor and I'd go so far as to guess that English was probably your second language.
Nah english isnt my second language. And well for your info i am not from third world country either. As i told you before trying to inflame me with juvenile comments especially related to my linguistic skills do not provoke me any manner , rather it showcases your inabilities to prove your point.

You're saying the same thing again though, let's say hypothetically a monkey and a koala evolved from the same animal (this may or may not be true, I'm not a biologist) the same way the iPhone OS and OS X were based on the same kernel. What was said was that iPhone OS was based on OS X, which is like saying a monkey evolved from a koala, this is untrue.

You're saying they came from the same thing, that is true. But to say one came from the other is untrue. Me and my brother came from the same mother but he had no part in creating me.
You havent got any idea bout bsd, forget about mach 3 kernel? I cant explain you something which are outta ya intellectual capabilities. In layman terms iphone os kernel is a heavily modified version of os x platform which in turn is heavily modified version of mach 3 kernel. Hence iphone os is neither direct descendant nor a variant of osx, although hierarchically iphone os platform do fall in line of os x owing to major similarities.
I am afraid but referring to koala, monkey and their what not relativity facts does not give a simplistic preview of relationship between os x and iphone os.

Looking at your responses , i have got a pretty clear picture that you have no experience with any thing related with UNIX architectures forget about their ancestory or relativity with other existing operating system. It is a futile exercise to shove up something which are out of ya domain hence i leave your stationary mental capabilities as it is, afterall Thomas Gray's has rightly said this " Ignorance is Bliss" .

Onto the part about me saying "They name it OS X because it sounds pretty", I realize X is the roman numeral 10 and it is the 10th revision of the OS, that isn't what I was referring to. Early on the iPhone OS was referred to as iPhone OS X. That is bologna and is what I thought the OP based his belief that iPhone OS X was based on Mac OS X. The truth is they only called it iPhone OS X because it sounded pretty.
Are you still stuck up with this? Yapping about your own theories wont make the facts redundant. Your next statement probably would be Bill named their os , "windows", just coz it sounded pretty. Heard "win32api" ? No.. neva mind ..i can understand.

P.s. - This is my final comment to your blasphemy. You are most invited to continue with your vehemency, afterall opensource is all bout voicing your abilities (inabilities) . Cheers

I've not heard that justification used before -- care to elaborate? Smart for their bottom line, smart for the platform, smart for the users? And holding who accountable for what, exactly?

Forcing me to register before I can distribute software (through the appstore) has obvious benefits, but I'm not sure what I need to be held accountable for when compiling my own software for my own phone.

Apple has not and does not charge for the iPhone SDK. They charge $99 to load an app on ANY phone, even your own. I wouldn't care if access to the store cost $99, but your phone is off limits unless you pay.

The iPhone SDK is lightyears away from what we get with Maemo. Scratchbox? Xephyr? Let me laugh, you can't even properly emulate GPS, phone or BT features without everything crashing into a pile of unusable ash.
I didn't say ANYTHING about the tools available to Maemo developers. Not a thing. This has nothing to do with a discussion about being "open" either. But if you really want to know: I don't like scratchbox either.

Also, by registering all the developers, Apple is making a very smart move: accountability.
The day people are held accountable for their software is the day Microsoft is a smoking crater in Redmond.

Don't say that Apple is the only one using their veto right. Nokia pulled emulators
They're back in, last I checked.

and we've killed off the only decent game developer on Maemo because he abused the QA process.
Didn't hear about this.

Please put your fanboyism back in the broomstick until you know how to use it.
Ok, duly noted that any and all criticism of the fact that Apple places a $99 barrier to loading any 3rd party software on any iPhone is fanboyism. Very well, Crashanddie, I shall not criticize Apple further. We must act immediately to emulate Apple's superior distribution methods and close off the community repositories and lock down the N900 completely.

Next time don't stuff words in my mouth.
