You could've checked for the apps and stuff before you went and purchased your N900.

Maybe, but don't think anyone expected the commercial app development to be as poor as it is.

yeah it's crap (ovi store for n900) it's been months now i ' we' want usable apps now i wish i knew how to make cause i would ! but all i know what to do is make calls and watch youtube !

Nokia solved the problem of clamor for more apps when all Palm apps became available -- for the N800 and N810. They solved it again with Mer, which made huge numbers of Debian apps available. Both approaches have essentially been abandoned, it appears to me.
