Hi, I'm desperately seeking help in updating my N900 to the latest version of Maemo...

When i first got my phone, it carried out a few upgrades and is currently on UK version 1.2009.44-1.205.1. I've since had an update notification and the latest version (1.2009.51-1.205.1) is available in my update list. My problem arises however when i try to install this update.

When trying to do it OTA, i receive a message saying that it cannot be carried out that way and that the nokia software updater must be used to upgrade via a pc. After connecting my phone to my pc and installing the software updater, it tells me that my phone already has the latest version!!

So in short, my phone knows it needs to upgrade to the latest version but refuses to do it unless its via a pc, then when i use a pc it tells me that i have the latest version, so i'm going round in circles and cant access Ovi etc...

I'm grateful for an help anyone out there can offer!

Well, you could just reflash your whole phone to the latest version using the maemo flasher.
(though this will most likely delete all your phone data)

The Nokia Software Updater's been a pain lately.

Have you tried flashing to the new firmware?

See - http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware

If it's unclear, please post back. (Be sure to backup. Don't flash the eMMC unless you have really messed your device up.)

That generally means that there's a conflict with some installed applications. OpenArena is commonly the issue - you may need to uninstall it temporarily until you've updated.

While you're at it, I would highly recommend flashing your firmware to the Global variant, away from the UK Vodafone variant you're on currently, as with your current variant you're relying on Vodafone to approve each firmware update before you can get it, which will delay each one or make them unavailable entirely.
