It will be interesting to see what Apple has to offer as iPhone 4. Probably next 7th of June they will release it.
iPhone 4 and Nokia N8 will be compared alot. Right now IMHO it seems very good for N8. The camera is the best currently in mobile phones, HDMI-interface is nice, USB OTG is nice, ....

What matters alot, is the GUI in N8. There are alot of changes in Symbian^3 compared to old S60-platforms. Single click instead of double click, pinch zoom; all those things which made iPhone popular. Nokia better not have bugs in the UI when N8 is available.

GUI speed of responses is the main reason why Apple hasn't supported multitasking in current iPhone models.
It probably wouldn't hurt, if there would be at least two schedlulers for multitasking; for basic users which want maximum speed in UI sacrificing abit flexible multitasking, and then those advanced usees, who do not care if UI lags abit as long multitasking is smooth and background processes get all their needed CPU-time. "UI schedluler" and "Multitaskin schedluler" could be changed in the settings.

Overall, with N8, I think Nokia is on its way back to the top.

Still, I prefer N900 due to its Linux-compatibility. I hope Nokia will release once a year a Linux (Meego) phone which has all the currently reasonable latest hardware features. (But of course be compatible with the previous Linux phones.)

Once a year, a new Linux phone.. and orphanage for the previous models. Let's show them how we can screw up open-source! Status quo! Here, here!

I beg to differ. Even at the low end of the spectrum (OMAP 1710), OS2005 on the 770 was infinitely better than SymbianOS on the N70 or similar devices of the time.

Only reason that holds me from switching is the full flash support we have
-the very advanced browser
-the firefox browser
-and the linux apps
-the openness of maemo/meego
-the modding and overclocking
-and this community that still remains great even with posts like this one

the n900 is awesome, I don't think any phone in the market at the moment could satisfy me better.. being a comp sci student I can understand its true potential.

Though I agree that nokia is messing up, it has the resources and they should have been able to do a much better job. But from the looks of it they are really putting sales and customer satisfaction secondary to sales and marketing.

The n900 still is in demand, i personally know quite a few ppl who are waiting for this phone to be released in their respective countries to get their hands on it.. I just hope Nokia has a better strategy in store. =)

^^^ I agree. Developer phone my arse. It wasn't sold as that back in september when Nokia released the pre-orders.

The fact that its sold (or was) as a smart phone is shocking. As a smart phone its a piece of crap. As an internet device that can run as a computer, its a seriously powerful lump of plastic. Doesn't make it a good user experience though.

I along with 3 others from work have now sold the n900 and move to android via desire/G N1.

Nokia should concentrate on making 1 OS that works in the smartphone market. First time. HTC have. Why can't Nokia?? Other OS's ie meego or whatever its called this week are fine for specialist devices but don't try to bolt on bits that don't work very well and sell it as something its not.

For the record, HTC supports two major platforms (WinMo and Android), just like Nokia (Symbian and Maemo). In fact, HTC's WinMo involvement is probably one the reasons they now have to pay license fees to Microsoft for selling Android devices.

EDIT: Scratch that, HTC supports *three* platforms, I forgot Brew (HTC Smart)
