also, any criticism about N900 is not taken positively...most of the N900 fanboys start assuming that person posting the comment is an Apple user...which I am not...I dont own apple products...but this just goes to show the insecurity of N900

I feel stuck with this phone...I cant make video calls n much more that i though i would be able to do with it...

also, everything about this phone is "in the works" or "you have to install xxx and do yyy and do zzz" to do a basic task...

a $400 phone with no development support..i would never fall for this nokia hype again.
I'm from Singapore and over here, none of the mobile telcos offer N900 with their contract (as of this writing). The only way to get N900 is via the local Nokia retail shop or purchase an export set from US, UK etc.. I believe the reason for that is because the phone usage is not as straightforward as the iPhoney. Take a walk downtown in Singapore and you'll see 1 in 3 people carrying an iPhone. Why ? Cos its "trendy".

But I prefer function over form.

My point is that I figure the N900 was catered for those who'd like to experiment, to explore. And It helps to have linux background to fully savour the experience.

Well, in my opinion, N900 is a milestone rather than hype. Its just a matter of targetting the right audience.

so by experiment you mean the end user create his own app that utilizes the front cam, creates programs/apps on his own?

so basically the end user needs to populate the app store in N900!

i dont understand why all the answers mention iphone although my question never mentioned it...

clearly N900 is insecure...and hence mention of iphone in answers when iphone is nowhere mentioned in the question...

All N900 users are insecure because a few mention the iPhone?

I want your logic! Blanket statements always win arguments!

meh, i changed from symbian to windows mobile, to iphone, to n900, to android, back to iphone, now im settling with n900

iphone is a great phone/multimedia device, but cant do much without jailbreaking (no emulator ), and i dont need 15 different fart apps on my phone (or do i?)

n900 caters most of my needs (need sling/hava damn it!) without worrying if the next update will break my emulators (maybe it will, who knows, if nokia ever decide to release pr1.2); browser is great, not as fast as safari, but hey, megavideo works

no mate, what he means is the end user, in this case 'YOU'
should of already known the device did not have lots of apps before you 'wasted' your money on it!
and the other end user 'ME' isnt even interested in apps!
i already have everything i need, so why would i even care about an 'app store!'
i bought this device for 1 reason only, to personalise, tweak, and mod it to death, and it still does way more than i ever imagined it!
thats all im interested in,
any apps are a bonus!

People bring up iPhone in response to "there aren't enough apps" because that's a fad that Apple created with the success of the iPhone. Discussing the need for some functionality or another is one thing but saying "there aren't enough apps" is silly. I'm sure every iPhone user has 100,000 apps on their phone...
