So, PR 1.2 is here (or almost here for those able to contain their patience for the actual release).
I read on the Changelog that Qt 4.6.2 will now be pre-installed.

What does this mean for the end-user? Is it just a UI feature? Should we expect something amazing to happen on future applications?

You can expect more apps since symbian^3 and meego support qt 4.6. I know there is a shazam app written in qt so we can expect that

More apps? Why? What stops developers from making apps before Qt?

Nothing stop dev from making apps before just a matter of framework preferences.

I think what nosa meant was that apps that are available already for S3 would be easily adjusted to Maemo/N900.

That is incorrect. S3 apps are S3 apps - Qt will not magically turn all apps runnable on Maemo - only those that ARE written with Qt benefit from this.

@troff76:
The fear that writing in/learning existing technologies whose future is less-than-officially-supported is wasted effort (it isn't, but sometimes people view it as such).

It's already ported to N900, just held like pr1.2 (you can see nokia video with it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsHc53B5PBs)

2 the topic starter. As we know QT is crossplatforming (can run on windows/linux/symbia) that means a lot of application can be easily ported or even outofbox supported on several OS's. for us it's important because of meego and symbian (as first is the future os and i consider a lot of apps would be written for it, and second has already a lot of apps)

The existing symbian apps would have to be re-written in Qt first, they won't just magically run now the n899 has Qt 4.6. It's a matter of getting devs to install and use the latest Qt sdk, open their existing application projects and spend time to port them to use it, and then compile and release a Maemo version. They may not be interested in doing that if they feel the Maemo userbase is insignifigant. A large percentage of Symbian apps are Java, and they will probably not be ported, along with those apps that rely on certain things like a digital compass or whatever. So it!s not just as plain sailing as all that.
