Hello

This would probably be a dealbreaker, as my main reason for getting an N800 (besides its cool factor) would be to avoid hauling my laptop to connect to Boingo hotspots when travelling.

I assume having wifi it can conenct easily with ANY hotspots, either from big deployments like boingo or independent installations. Am I right?

Thanks

Dani

Yes and No.

There is no Boingo Wireless Connection manager for the N800 (or any Linux platform, for that matter). So it will not automatically hunt out and log you in to available Boingo hotspot partners.

However, you can usually log in manually through the web portal using your Boingo credentials. Depending on the hotspot provider, your username will be one of three possibilities:

* <username> (e.g., just your username, no prefix or postfix)
* boingo/<username>
* <username>@boingo

Some portal login pages also have an option to pick the "roaming partner" from a drop down list separately from the username field.

This is a pain, but it does work. Of course, you have to know whether or not the hotspot provider you are trying to use is a Boingo partner to begin with. I would really love to see Nokia get Boingo to port their connection manager to the N800 (especially since the N800's connection manager is so primitive). But I am not counting on this ever happening...

You might be able to use Devicescape to automate the login process.
