Everyone on this forum posts "wrong things" (childish abbreviation needed here) that would depend on the mood they are in and reading some of the things on here make me weep.
Anyhow i am off to lunch.

I have just got a response from Nokia regarding the PR1.2 update after 5 weeks of badgering them and it seems that the release wont be happening any time soon.

Best they said I could hope for would be early next month but not to take that as gospel as its a complex proceedure with lots of testing involved

They continued to inform me that any further harrassment about the release of the PR1.2 update would be dealt with sternly by Chuck Norris and his trusty trout......

Here are the facts as I understand them (happy to receive corrections):
  • Firmware originally came from inside Nokia (obviously)
  • Firmware is not the same as the HK N900 firmware (no chinese support)
  • Firmware was released on a chinese website

Everything else is mostly speculation.
  • We don't know when it left nokia.
  • We don't know how long it took to get to the chinese website
  • We don't know if it changed hands between Nokia and the website
  • We don't know if it's version number is it's true version number or copied from HK N900 release number

Is it right to slam those who installed it?
No, the beauty of the N900 is it's openness the last thing we want to do is crack down on that. However those that do install it need to understand responsibility of their actions and try not to blame others if things don't go so well.

Is it right to slam those who warned against installing it?
No, as I said above we don't know where it's been and what it contains. It would be irresponsible of the community not to provide warnings.

Should those who warned against installing then gloat when someone reports problems with it?
Of course not, that's just petty and doesn't help. If you don't have anything useful to say then don't.

Should people claim that this firmware is 100% safe?
Of course not, because unless they are from Nokia or responsible for the leak they don't really know.

Disclaimer: I've not installed the firmware as personally I would only want to install something officially from Nokia, however I've read with interest the new features and bug fixes that have been reported by those who did install and eagerly await an offical release.

I think maybe we should ignore the pr 1.2. Every day I think it will be today, will be tomorrow and nokia will not comment on that.

If with this unofficial version of the internet, there isnt a comment from the nokia to official version is because it will still take a long time to leave. Otherwise, the nokia would say something like "do not install this version, the official version will come out within a week ..."

I love my N900, but I think it was a mistake i bought it, if was today i would have opted for other equipment.

I think nokia has lost much market and currently is not able to throw a good competitor to aple (what might have happened if they had given attention to the N900).

Please can you attach the email to a post so we can all read it.
