I just purchase the n900 because I love the features and the possibilities of the phone. I am wondering if there is any one who has try to put a 3g-3.5g or other band Adapter via (usb to micro usb) and try to pick up att 3g service?

I might not be explaining this correctly. but since the phone doesnt have the right attena built in, can we plug in an adapter to modify it shortcoming and have 3g on att services via adapter?

Curiosity got the better of me... what is a band adapter? because I googled it and could find anything.

Edit: do you mean USB internet tethering to a Computer?
or adding a new piece of hardware to enable 3g usb internet. (for some reason, lol)

you can get a att 3g band capable smartphone and make it act as a wifi hotspot, otherwise i dont see anything similar to your description

Just finished work (very tiered) and I don't think we have att here in UK so was confused. lol

don't know how easy it would be to add an extra band to a cell phone...

if you could get if to utilise an att 3g USB stick, that would be quite a feat though. power supply for one would stand in your way.

Well unfortunately for us Att users of the N900 phone we are only on 2g frequency.

Since maemo is a linux os i figure there maybe a way to get something like the "Sierra Wireless AirCard® USB 305" (att 3g usb adapter for laptop) with a USB type-a to micro usb female/male adapter and hooking it up to the phone for other times where no wi-fi spots are around. It doesnt bother me much about being on 2g because when i am at home I can enable wifi connection, and on the road i cant talk on the phone either. So ideally it would be nice have one for times where wifi is not avaiable. I'll have to research on how much power one of these things drain.

3g usb adapter

Female USB 2.0 A to micro Usb

according to sierrawireless site it is compatible with most linux os (ie: ubuntu)

Currently, there is no support for USB devices. So that's not possible now. Search for USB OTG or USB host in the threads to follow the work on this.

A rather expensive way to accomplish this is to pay for a mobile hotspot. They have devices that run off power adapters so you would not need to use your phones battery life to keep it going.

In Venezuela and others countries, thousands Nokia N900 users can't get 3G cause providers use 1900MHz UMTS (N900 can’t use). Adding the 1900 antenna could solve this limitation, hard? But possible: http://ceta.mit.edu/pierc/pier.php?paper=09070704
Any idea or suggestion?
Tks, Hector Pons
