I think Android is a great name. But what's in a name....? Kind of a lame criticism
I do fear when the Google overloads die and that "do no evil" gets axed by shareholders. The privacy nightmare will begin then.
I am typing this on a G1 while my N900 is being repaired. I was ridiculed for saying it, but I miss it a lot.
I find the G1 fonts and color combinations and gamma setting are hard on the eyes. The n900 is just perfect to my eyes.
In general the N900 layout and such just makes more sense. And I used this G1 for a year before the N900.
I do think the cellular radio does data faster on the same connection.

yeah, "Android" is much sillier than "Maemo" or "Meego". And I'm about tired of them delivering awesome updates that work very well for free. Enough of this free turn-by-turn, voice search, voice navigation, etc. ENOUGH ALREADY.

dual boot Android/Meego FTW. May the best OS be active the longest...

Isn't that how it always is in corporate-dream-land?

I don't think so. Here's another one:

See?
A name and the logo of something is already part of its marketing. I will NEVER buy a product which has a chewed apple on its back. Perhaps if they changed their logo to a full, fresh apple, I would consider them.
And the idiotically smiling robot is also very dumb.

On the other hand, the two penguins carving the "Maemo 5" caption with lasers coming from their eyes... is just pure awesomeness.

Now now, there are companies far more evil than Google.
Forget Apple, they are just greedy... the real evil is Google!
(There is also a video worth watching.)

And, even good ol' Steve thinks Google is evil.

And there is another article as well.

Hmm, it might be my pareidolia, or some Rorschach-effect, but when i look at the Android logo, i don't see a smiling robot there, rather the opposite. I see a green head of an insect, an ant, or bug, which somehow makes sense, considering the ideas of Media-theorist Norbert Bolz, who states that humans acquire behavioral qualities similar to those of insects when participating in networks (hence "Buzz" etc.), and of course considering the spyware-like "features" an Android phone offers. I don't think big companies leave their logos to chance, there are many smart minds behind those decisions, so if there's really a bug-head masked as robot, it must be some sort of dark humour.
But i'm not laughing.

At least everyone can agree on how to pronounce Android. "Maemo" wasn't a name that made any sense and was even less universally pronounceable. Meego is at least pronounceable but it sounds a bit less mature as a brand name.

The Android logo is a clean, simple and friendly mascot/symbol. Maemo.. well, it didn't even have one at first and it's still not much of an icon. It's just--the name. Not much of a symbol. Meego.. does it even have a logo? I'm not sure that I've seen one yet.

Most evil company is certainly debatable.. but after my own experiences with Nokia products versus Google branded products, I've had a vastly better customer support, accessories and software experience on my Motorola Droid than I ever had with my Nokia N800--and I mean, I took my N800 EVERYWHERE I went and loved it despite the abuse from Nokia. If I had to rate the "evil" factor so far, I feel far less evil dripping from Google fingers than from Nokia's negligent, blithe, uncaring touch. My impression is that Google at least pro-actively asks for and acts on customer concerns. Despite Nokia's claims of being more open than Google with the Linux kernel, I saw far less of Nokia playing ball with the open-source community overall, especially outside of the Linux kernel.

Can you explain what you mean that Android will be free until competitors go bankrupt? I'm not entirely sure I understand how that works.

Hm, you are right.
Do you think it would sell better if it was smiling?

Me neither.

I would assume they are using these little peeps as their mascot. Website is covered with them.

OT
I do not like those figures. It just reminds me looks of some OS apps that might be functional and effective in power user's hands but still look like: "Look daddy what I did....wheeee" *sigh*.
