Dear all,
new in the forum and happy new owner of this fantastic device.
I am currently using Three ITA as operator and as you may know there are no charges in UK for data under three.
The problem is that it recognize it as roaming so to have it "always connected" i would need to allow data roaming always with the most likely risk to switch into Orange or T-mobile.
Is there an app that allows to selct three UK and lock it?
I've searched allover but nothing really working.
Thanks a lot
Bob

Are the issues with 3 UK not resolved on PR 1.1?

Did you purchase the handset through 3? Have you spoken to them about this as they may be able to resolve it on the 'network' side?

no issues with three UK.
I use a three ITA simcard and I would like the network to stay under Three UK only... I hope it clarifies.
Thx

Ciao Bob. Please be very careful re. your roaming data whilst in Uk, I'm a bit concerned that you may be misinformed on the data charges (or lack thereof):

I had the opposite - but identical - scenario from 2006-2008: I had a Three UK prepaid SIM. This allowed me to use my UK data bundle (£10/GB IIRC) in Italy (amongst other countries where Hutchison/3 had their own network). This was possible under the "Three like home" promotion. That promotion was withdrawn last summer, so you can no longer use a data bundle from one country in any other country as far as I am aware.

I haven't looked on Tre.it for a while, so maybe a new promo has been launched that once again allows this? If so, I'd be grateful for any info you can give (specifically, is it a reciprocal arrangement!) ... a URL would do (my italian is just about up to reading small print in the T's & C's).

Either way, please be very careful to check that you are not in fact racking up huge roaming data costs - I may be totally wrong, but better safe than sorry !!

EDIT - I know that Three UK prepaid users still get a "free" data bundle with each cash topup (250MB to use within 1 month of the topup, IIRC), but I'm struggling to believe that this would apply to a Tre Italia SIM whether on prepaid or contract?

Hi Pigro,
I've been using three ITA for almost three years in UK. At the beginning with a contract... and only once they charged me 400Euros by mistake, luckily i was able to claim the money back. Now i have a pay as you go, and i get 3GB allowance for 5 euros a month. the sim card is almost empty every month (in term of money) so i don't risk too much. but apart from that problem a year ago, no problem at all. They always set an expiry date for "abroad like at home" but every 3 or 4 month it's extended.
here the link.

Any help you may need i'm here.
BTW Would be nice to have an app that allows to select the operator and keep it locked, in this way i could select three UK and keep the nokia connected always (while now i connect when i need it, keeping an eye on the operator, swithching to the home screen, quite annoying because elsewhere apart from the home screen the operator name is hidden).
Thanks
Bob

thanks for the explanation - interesting that Three UK withdrew the "3 like home" promo entirely but Tre.it still offer it. Can you also link to the prepagato tarrif you are on? I got a Tre.it SIM last year but didn't see any deal like 3Gb for 5 Euro (I just use standare data rates on prepaid when in Italy ... IIRC it's about 10 Eurocent per megabyte ... fine for my holiday needs!). If not, no probelm, I'll be able to find it on tre.it myself.

Good luck getting an app to nail up the operator ... couple of observations:

1. on my n900, the operator shows on all 4 home screens?
2. I assume you can't just set "network selection" to manual in your phone ettings (seems too obvious for you not to have tried it!)

Hi Pigro,
that's the offer (only on three network be carefull! but with n900 you just disable the roaming) and it's pretty new (was more expensive in the past)

that option works with any prepaid and it's authomatically renewed if you have enough credit.
1) the operator it's in all home screns but disapppear when you are chattin or surfing (you have only the signal strenght)
2) yes doesn't work
Cheers

Bob - I just got around to reading the blurb on the website re. the deal you linked to (I'm heading out to Italy in a couple of weeks time) ... that's really excellent, 3GB/5€ is great value in Italy alone, and being able to use it in UK too is a real bonus (just wish 3UK were still willing to reciprocate).

One more question - I read the t's & c's and it's all nice and clear, except they don't mention being able to cancel it (it says it will be automatically debited form your PAYG credit while your balance allows it, and if your credit is too low it will be suspended until you top up again, at which point it will automatically resume). That's all fine, but normally with theae kinds of promo, they also confirm in the t's & c's how you can cancel the service when you no longer wish it. In this case it doesn't give any info on that.

I logged onto "servici clienti 133", and I see that I can activate the promo from there - I assume that, once it's active, I can simply deactivate it whenever I want from the same webpage?

Cheers again for bringing this to my attention, it's a great deal whch I may otherwise have totally overlooked!

Hi Pigro,
yes i guess you can deactivate as for other options from your self service area. you rewgister with your sim card and then you deactivate it.
Be carefull to roamings even in italy... is 2euros each MB!
I'm here to help if you need
cheers
