Hardware: able to see TV on a winPC
System:
Win Vista 32 bit
Digital Tuner (ViXS PureTV Digital TV Receiver, 3 years old!)
N8x0 5.2008.43-7

Installation:

1) Install orb on desktop PC - Orb20SetupUs.exe (v2.55.0079); I used the international (New!). I recommend unstall previous orb version before installing this one. Follow instructions and set up orb account.

2) On winPC: orb>Control Panel>TV>you should see you TV card listed, if not, Refresh, hilite your TV card>Start Wizard>Auto Scan, takes several minutes; if you have more than one TV card, Auto Scan each one.

3) Install tear, step by step guide here, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ight=tear+step

4) On N8x0: web>mycast.orb.com>log in using orb account from step 1)

5) On N810: Setting: DEFAULTS DOES NOT WORK!
Speed: default 160, change to Use fixed speed 320 KB/s >Save
Stream: Windows Media Format (.asx) >Save (THIS IS THE KEYSTEP!)
Layout: default
More: default

DONE!

Now enjoy your TV on your N8x0, it runs so smooth you wont believe it is streaming! 160 kB/s probably will be a tard smoothier, but very pixelated, unwatchable, 320 kB/s is the right compromise; 640 kB/s may be a little more crispy (?), but it runs for 30 s then halt for 1 s then 30 s again....

More info similar topics for N900, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=51562

Some other hackers, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=20341; or ukki's Knots 2, both reported success.

Cant get tear to work? No problem. Just use your default browser, change the stream format to 3GP-AAC/RTSP format (.3gp). It runs very well, but no audio

No Nokia tablet? You got to have some PDA, right? How about window CE smart phone? Just use the default browser, go mycast.orb.com and log in, click the TV program, it works right out of the box, no modification needed! It also runs very smooth and crystall clear too, with audio!

Enjoy,

bun

Just in case some people wondering how much is a digital TV tuner, here is an example, I did not have it, so buy it at your own risk.

http://www.meritline.com/hybrid-usb-...--p-35677.aspx

$30, comes with remote!

So 400x240 then zoomed x 2 with 24 fps?

Sounds about right since that's the exact thing knots does.

Thanks for the info bun.

Thanks for the tips! I can't get my n810 to open asx files--opens media player and says codec error. Any ideas?

This helped. It must be an error in parsing asx files (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=10407).

Anyone know a work around so I don't have to open the asx file with a text editor, copy the stream wmv address and play through X-term ("mplayer http://.......wmv")?
