Hi, I'm a new user to the 770 (couldn't resist that buy.com deal). I've only had the 770 a couple days and so far I'm really enjoying it. I mainly wanted it to stream Internet radio, play music from my PC, and light web browsing when I wasn't at my PC. So far, it works great for all the above (using shoutcast and media streamer to play mp3's from my PC).

My question though, certain radio streams I'd like to listen to (like wfan.com and kyw1060.com) use the flash player applet to load their live streams, which doesn't want to work. Is there any way to get these type of streams to work in the 770? or am I out of luck?

Thanks and appreciate any help.

That's not necessarily true. All you need to do is figure out the URL of the audio stream. Try this application http://www.rokulabs.com/support_sb_dwnld_radiosnoop.php.

While I do own a Soundbrige, you don't need one to use the app and I've used it in the past to find url's of streams and then played them on my 770.

Thanks for the help. bac522, I will look into that program.

Before I posted here last night, I spent most of yesterday googling and was actually able to find (I think) the actually URLs to these streams...

Code:
http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WFANAM.pls

http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/KYWAM.pls
Unfortunately, they didn't seem to work with the 770's audio player. I also tried them using winamp on my PC, and the one worked, but there was horrible stuttering.

From what I've been reading, supposedly streamtheworld embeds some kind of protection within the flash player

I will keep looking though and will try that website you posted. Hopefully there's a work around.

Just curious too, if anyone is running the OS 2007HE on their 770, will they play the stream from the sites below? If anyone could give them a try, I'd appreciate it, as I'm considering doing the upgrade. Thanks again

Hi, I just tested this on my 770 and it works fine. Download MPLAYER on your nokia and that should play the files.

cheers

david04, is that with the default OS 2006?

edit: ok, sorry to ask another question, really appreciate the help so far. I got mplayer installed but can't figure out how to get it to stream a link. for example, this one
Code:
http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/KYWAM.pls
I read through the mplayer docs and tried some of the command lines, like putting mplayer before the url, but it doesnt work (I'm probably doing it wrong). Also, searched and read through a lot of threads here, but I still can't figure it out.

This approach will generally work for radio stations that use StreamTheWorld.

For players that can read .pls files ...
http://provisioning.streamtheworld.c...YWAMDIALUP.pls

For players that need a direct connection ... but less reliable for the future (because IP addresses can change)
http://64.235.213.165:80/KYWAMDIALUPCMP3

For other stations - but replace the callsign (KYWAM above) by going to the site with PC web browser and looking at the what they use in the Flash player.

Note - this way in generally gets a lower quality stream (hence DialUp in the name)

It's a little bit of a kludge, but you need to do it from an xterm shell, which means you also need to download the x-terminal app if you haven't already. But from the shell window the mplayer command would be:

mplayer -vo null -cache 256 -playlist [URL of STREAM]

just tried it and it wOrks like a charm. the only thing i had to do was enter the url into the browser, which opens the audio player. for some reason, putting the url directly into the players 'add sream' bar doesnt work. once its loaded from the though, it can be saved to my favorites (i mean favourites . sound is fine for me, since im just worried about AM talk radio. thanks again!!
