I won't quote all that you wrote But I do agree with most of it. I'm still with my N900 and can't see myself leaving unless a better phone with real linux comes out. Despite all the bugs and disappointments, it feels like "home" to me as a long-time Linux user. When I use non-Linux platforms I tend to find myself using programs which were ported over from Linux. Easy Chroot/Easy Debian is just icing on the N900 linux cake for me.

GPS?! Might as well have asked for an X-Ray scanner while you were at it.

Allow me to ask one question... if anybody disagrees with you about the N900... is this the expected response?

Nope. I had got the N95 8gb a year earlier. I read around on the phone but I was led to believe it was a phone that was a mobile computer-like the N95 was supposed to be. There wasn't anything on the Nokia site then or now that would lead someone to conclude that it was a step 4/5 device. Maybe I didn't look hard enough but you would think that it would be on the site. I walked into the Nokia store in downtown Chicago and bought it. No one said, "Hey. This is a step 4/5 device so you might not want it." I was not cautioned with the purchase or given warning to any degree. They stated it was selling fast and they couldn't keep up. That fact was not advertised at all on any signage regarding the N900. It was not readily available on this website unless you did some digging around.

No, it isn't. But there is really no debate here. The OP is just looking for one big fat pity party

For those who are disappointed in the N900 because it isn't polished enough or doesn't do enough mass-market things for you: Nokia understands.

At a "mobile geeks" meeting, a head guy from Nokia USA told me that the N900 is a "developer phone" and that the next device (the MeeGo device) coming in the second half of the year (I suspect that means November / December 2010) will be the one that makes people happy in terms of mass-market functionality.

So I suggest you sell your N900 ASAP and put your money into a nice high-interest investment, and then buy the MeeGo device when it comes out later this year.

I don't mind being mass market. But I want support! I want bugfixes, that's all. PR1.2 is a must. Nokia is not delivering. As I said before, it's combining the worst parts of the closed source and open source ecosystems...
