When you're doing iPhone OS stuff I'd say yes, but you have a few different options with Maemo. The emulator Xephyr mode is actually the least desirable for me 'cause the armel QEMU doesn't work and the X86 target has its own problems. So, I either use sshfs and the FREMANTLE_ARMEL target, or I open 3 ssh sessions to the device. And then I also do some light coding while in bed. Since the stand sucks, the device sits up nicely on the curve of her a*s. Again, J/K.

It just so happens that the device is the best emulator, because everything actually works. I've been doing OpenGL ES and Availability stuff lately, and that should be enough said.
I see, thank you for your information. Compiling in the real hardware for development should be ideal, but I'm just worrying that constantly loading up the device would wear out the CPU and flash pretty quick. I'll sort this out in a real development thread. Just want to get a quick response from you and you're helpful. Thank you very much.

This is indeed an enthusiast site. But it's not an exclusive site.

And I'm not pointing any fingers - your rhetoric seems to be way too defensive for the rather laid back conversation that we're having.

I'm not charging, nor even finger-pointing. I just can't stand the new trend of people basically mobbing the (stupid) angry neophyte that hadn't done enough research - which, all the research in the world can't prepare people for everything - with more, seemingly justified (stupid) anger about their platform of choice - which... I understand since this is an enthusiast site - but it doesn't excuse such behavior in the least.

Regardless; I've not said that I had a problem with the administration. I've resorted to using the tools that the administration have put in place - report the thread/post - and I've left it at that. So... not sure where you were going with that.

Simply stated - and lord, please take the following words literally since I've taken my sweet time to choose them - I do not fault the people that come into TMO with blinding bravado that's dismissive of their own faults nor do I blame the mobs of folks that meet that bravado with "like energy"... but I cannot agree that the "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" type of mentality that's become rather prevalent around here is at all something I can stand for, nor support. That's my stance... it doesn't take into consideration your stance; which is honestly more neutral and balanced than my own, if you were asking.

Now, I'm not sure why you've continuously taken notice to what I've said about the status quo around here. If you wish to protect the mobs, feel free. If you wish to not direct the mob to ignore the ignorance that needs to be corrected by the neophytes... feel free.

I pass no judgment other than you are doing a darn good job as mod. I'll stand behind that statement.

But it also means that I'm able to have an opinion, popular or not, if I see action(s) that could be corralled.

That's my 2 cents. Nothing personal placed into the aforesaid statements. Just my opinion, devoid of judgment. Just my opinion based on what I see.

@gerbick, @texrat:

Can I just say you're both awesome, and should kiss and make up before it gets too nasty .

Ironic statements gerbick. You're using charged words in blanket statements. If you really think you're coming across as dispassionate when you're not, though, I'm not going to sit here and go back and forth. Your opinion's set.

I've said what I intend to. Oh, and I was being objective with what I said in the previous post. No defensiveness, no hostility. Just plain reality.

Heh, I actually was similarly surprised when Tex brought up the moderation issue in this discussion. I thought the moderation in this forum has struck a great balance between forum administration (making threads organized, merging them as necessary, etc) and (freedom from) moderation within the discussion contents themselves.

Personally, when I brought up the similar issue (fanboys attacking anyone who has anything negative to say about N900) was just a commentary and I wasn't asking for such content to be moderated in any ways.

I guess this also brings highlight to how an actively-chatting moderator can affect the direction of such discussion and blur the lines between his post as a user and his post when moderating.

I suggest using some sort of indicator (a tagline, a sig, etc) of when you're moderating and when you aren't, just so you can enjoy your previous status as a user of this site during normal discussions with us You'll know when we call your moderator side up... but most of the time I think we're just talking to good 'ol Tex.

I brought up moderation due to implications and outright statements that the inmates are being allowed to run the asylum. I'm surprised at the surprise.

Oh well.

Thinking a little more... you bring up a fair point. My moderation style is "facilitator". I try to guide discussions, talk angry people off ledges, etc. I occasionally get PMs thanking me for being a visible moderator. But more and more I keep thinking I should try sjgadsby's famous stealth approach... especially with the pitched tenor of popular threads lately...

...ok. How about this then.

What can I say, or not say that will bring an end to this? This is not my intent... at all.

I'm so damn confused now, I don't know what I said to incur this low opinion nor am I insinuating anything.

Seriously. For once, I am protesting something I don't like from members not named Texrat, that's going on here on the boards... and I'm not... um.

ugh. I give up. Totally flabbergasted now because nothing I said is being... heard... wtf.

Now I'm confused. I didn't say anything about having a low opinion of you, and I'm responding specifically to what you've said, not reading between lines at all.

But like I said I'm not interested in another entanglement. I guess we'll agree to misunderstand each other?

I wasn't being ironic. Nor was I being facetious about being dispassionate nor was I using any blanket statements nor hiding anything between any lines.

To be charged as such, when I wasn't doing it... offends.

The day that I got blindsided by somebody demanding that I leave the boards because I didn't own a Nokia N900 - thus my statements were basically null & void and no moderation came to correct that... I lashed out towards you of all people. In hindsight - and I believe I've done so, if not, I'll do it now - I apologize for continuing that cycle of anger.

Now? Not angry. Not even using words that should be twisted... but somehow are. I'm not even thinking in personal terms outside of my own opinion... and I'm one of the quickest to state that opinions are welcome, have at them from all angles. Just respect those opinions as much as you want your own opinions respected.

How I got to be what I've been charged above as being falsely dispassionate, hiding charged words in blanket statements, et al... I'm a southerner and to me... that's kind, gentle, collegiate words for "you're lying".

So again, I have to ask. What can I say that will get me out of that light and back to where it needs to be. I'm 100% confused... somewhat offended, but I'll let the confused feeling take precedent in this case.

gerbick... wow. I don't get that. But I'd rather you write me privately rather than continue what to me is something being blown WAY out of proportion in this thread.

I do apologize if I caused you to feel offended. But I really don't see why you would be.
