Hi

I've now got a 40GB hard disk attached via usb to my 770, and I can see and play mp3's from it.

However I want to use Canola for in-car use, but it just seems to be continually scanning my music library. The configuration tool says that it is scanning, and the main canola appp just gives a message "wait, configuring local database".

How long should a scan of 35GB of MP3s take? and is there anything I can do to troubleshoot or fix this?

thanks

Gary

I once had it scan my mmc slots on my n800. It could take an hour at times. I soon realized it was also scanning my meamo mapper map folders. I imagine 35 gigs of songs would be horrible to scan.

Sussed it - It wasn't actually running. Reinstalled Canola, but the key thing was that the external hard disk needed to be mounted as an mmc folder in the media
folder before Canola or UKMP would scan it.

Canola is now scanning, We'll see how long it takes, and how it copes between mounts of the drive.

Update.

Initial scanning took about 30 minutes, which is about the same as slimserver or myth on my main server, which is good.

Everything is playing great now from the external HD. Mounting the drive does not appear at this time to create a significant amount of activity.

I have also installed a system monitor applet which has the ability to launch scripts, and save them in a menu which is available by tapping on the monitor. This means I can mount and dismount the hard drive by tapping a menu item.

Now the concept works, the next step is to mount the kit in the Car. For this I'l need a usb extension lead, a longer audio lead for the fm transmitter, and a car charger for the 770. Oh and a mount for the unit.

Many many thanks go to thoughtfix, I gleaned most of the information I need ed from his blog.
