Hi there.

I have studied some of available UPnP media server solutions like TwonkyMedia, TVersity, Nero 7 MediaHome.

TwonkyMedia v4.4 seems to be quite good actually, small and efficient. Sharing works greatly with SoutCast radiostations and MP3 files.

Have anyone got the Video transcoding thing to work? I gor only "buffering" and the black video, no audio.

I've used TVersity with Canola and it worked fine, only tried a few videos which I either downloaded from the web (320x240 >640x480) I didnt try anything else. It ran fine and sounded good.

ok... I would like to know have anyone tested / use twonky v4.4 solution for video transcoding. I presume that the server needs 3rd party transcoder (vlc?) but manuals, FAQ doesn't give anything.

twonky's forums create account is so childish (fill form, print and fax it to them - IDIOTS), so I can't ask from there..

I kind of fell on top of azureus v3. I have it running in the background all the time anyway and the built in upnp media server is good enough for any mp3 streams or pre-converted vids.

I found SimpleCenter works very nicely. It takes forever to load, but I like it. In addition to finding media locally, it will fetch RSS feeds and keep them for you to stream remotely.

TVersity works for me. While the on-the-fly transcoding doesn't work with ALL my video files, it works with quite a few of them (although it took a fair amount of tweaking and experimentation to get that working properly).

Yup, I've started using TVersity after boblinds suggested it (cheers m8). It's easy to set up and works very well with Media Streamer on the N770. And it's free.

I tried SimpleCenter first but as NastyGash has already stated, it can be slow (also, there is a charge for using it). I also tried Windows Media Player 11 but it is DOG slow. It slowed my PC up (not a very fast one I'll admit) but more annoyingly, it slowed the N770 right down. I've got over 130 gig of music and sometimes Media Streamer would just hang trying to display all of those folders. Sloooooooow sloooooow sloooooow.

Using TVersity is VERY fast - I'm hooked. Mind you, I haven't had a chance to get the video working yet - I'll try during the week.

I only use Windows Media Player's sharing library function... Works for audio and picture, but not video, it's simple enough, no software need to be installed, and super easy to configure.

For me, the key to getting TVersity to work with video transcoding was to have the right codecs (both audio and video) installed on my Windows PC. If you look around the TVersity site, you'll find listings of their recommended codecs (which include ffdshow and a few others).

770 boot from MMC running 2006 OS

It worked just fine with TVersity, see my previous post http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=7749

Audio streams alright. Video is very picky. As previously mentioned, you need the correct codec ffdshow is one. I have very little problem with streaming my own video. I have more problem with watching inet TV, for example, BloombergTV. I found out you need awful lots of bandwidth to do that. I tried once with cable instead of wireless, it works beautiful. I am trying WMP11 now, never realize that uPnP is built in WMP11 on vista. I just casually browsing "my network" on a Vista box, it picks up TVersity and does everything what my 770 is doing, and faster. Start to wonder what is left for TVersity and the others. Ummmmmmmm..........
