i can connect from the n900 to my pc but i cant connect from the pc to the n900

Use root instead, or if you really want user use root and do a passwd user to change the pass.

I cannot even use root@localhost, somehow the root passwd that I have set does not work.
I read that there is another passwd aske when installing openssh server, but I either do not remind or did not set any (reinstall openssh does not help).
Any idea?

You would like to dump the output like OP did for our investigation.

If you didn't sent one it will be blank. If you did, you're going to have to get the hash from /etc/shadow and crack it with jtr or another password cracker. I don't know what implementation is on Maemo but it take longer than a reflash

purge clean openssh and install it again
