I have recently looked at the Contacts & IM Addon that adds Facebook to the equation. But it didn't install for a reason that is still unknown to be. I tried to install it before, but there were missing packages. This time, al of the packages were there but the install just didn't work.

I done a simple search of the App Manager for "Facebook" and allowed it to include the description and not just the name of the application, there were two that came up but now I have tried installing (and it failed) one of them, neither of them show up.

I am wondering a few things here...
1. Do either of them add Facebook as an IM method?
2. Has anyone got them to work?
3. How come now they don't show up?

Just also to point out that I did remove stuff using the X Terminal after it failed, I was told to do that when my device slowed down as some of the memory could be in use by applications that are no longer installed on the handset.

Any help would be great!!

You can use the built in Jabber IM plugin.
username@chat.facebook.com for the username and you facebook password as the pass.
Your username on facebook is the one you set in settings.

To add facebook chat in to your phone you need to create a jabber account. To do this click the status bar at the top and go to availability, then go to accounts > create new. Look for jabber then enter your facebook username and password. for example username@chat.facebook.com then obviously your password. This should add facebook contacts in to chat.

Be warned though, it will create duplicates and you will have to merge them, if you have a lot of contacts (i have 550+ fb contacts and 270 phone contacts) it can take a while

That's great info so far!! If I just want to use it for Chat, will it over-write all of my contacts creating duplicates or can I just use it for the chat?

When you sign out your contacts should be back to what they were before signing in.

Just to say... when I was adding the account to Jabber, I noticed that all of the extra IM services were there, including Facebook which is strange as it did say that the App didn't install. That would probably explain why it wasn't showing up on the App list!! I am going to un-install it now as Jabber works fine, so again thanks for the info guys!!
