Hi All,

All my contacts on Exchange have categories. This way, I find out when a device synchronizes badly or adds/edits contacts. I noticed that every time I send an email using MfE from my N900 the contacts are edited and sync'ed back to Exchange. When the sync'ing happens the contacts are getting stripped of their category information. God only knows what else they're being stripped of.

Is there a way to stop this happening? The device is also adding contact information for people on the CC list, some of whom are not in my contact list.

Any device that messes with someone's contact information is unacceptable in my book!

I will rephrase my question in the hope that someone can help with a suggestion.

Is there a way to stop the N900 from editing my contacts every time I send an email to them?.

Have you looked though this thread:

mfe blame thread

To see if this issue is addressed? I have not as I have learned to live with it.

By the way, you will find there are other annoying things with this in that the system adds a new contact if the contact name does not already exist and the wrong thing is done if the email address crosses a line boundary.

This is a serious issue for many reasons:
  • Nokia doesn't support categories, so when you email someone, their categories are deleted!
  • Nokia doesn't support more than 256 characters for the address field, so every time you email someone, their address is truncated!

WTF?

I would like to stop contacts sync'ing and restart it (from scratch) every once in a while manuallyf. When I restart it I would like to do a fresh start (delete and resync). I'm finding it difficult to do this? Any tips?

Maybe disable contact sync entirely. You can import contacts from your exchange server to your local N900's contacts list when needed... (click contacts, click menu, "get contacts", "Import Mail Exch. Contacts")

At least the contacts on server are untouched then.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think that importing the Exchange list brings the GAL not my own contacts.

Issue solved in latest update. Now we have the option to ask the mail application not to automatically add contacts.
