Yet to use another phone that I would put as my 2nd favourite.
Struggle with the new androids (new one every month). They are here to take away apple's share of the pie and nothing more. Though they carry some bad *** functions.

I'd go with the N95-8GB. my all time favourite handset.

WHAT IS The 2nd Best PHONE after the n900 in your opinion?
Nokia N95.

It had basically the same features as N900. And its features are actual features and not bloatware.

5 MP camera, Wi-Fi, and more stuff. It was a miracle back in 2007.

And if the N900 didn't come out, I wouldn't have bought an other phone.
The only reason for replacing it is that I always wanted an N800, but it was a little too large and it didn't have GSM features.

A lot depends what apps you want to run

- In the UK Any Nokia S60 device can be a good bet due to free navigation

in US (not sure in UK yet) google maps on the HTC desire is astonishing. really really good. The comparison against current N900 ovi maps is rather depressing. N900 also misses out in not having a compass.

The other app I really miss is gravity (or a variety of iphone twitter apps). We still unfortunately don't yet IMO have a "great" implementation. witter is best so far. tweego popped up and looks prettier but is somewhat stalled in features.

Unlocked Nexus One. No required contract, and flipping a setting in the bootloader grants you root access, so you don't have to dig around to find some exploit because the handset maker decided that you were an enemy to be kept in a jail. Sadly, people are put off by high prices and Google failed to market the thing so now anyone who wants an N1 has to agree to contracts with AT&T and T-Mobile.

I'm sure you can find one, but you won't be getting a smartphone. All those capabilities suck up power, especially the big screens.

Well if you ask me, "phone" is simply a software-subset of the N900's capabilities and that subset, combined with the rest of the device, makes it better than pretty much anything else out there.

I mean it makes calls, does SMS, can do MMS, and has an address book. And then it does more. What more do you need out of a phone?

I was using it for two years, 5Mp camera, GPS , WiFi , 8gb memory. Its still a decent device but browser sucked big time

However, I cant compare it to N900 , probably Nexus One is the first phone that comes to my mind as a second phone after N900

nothing depends on apps! for any platform not iOS... a friend hooked his decision on the gMaps and is now disappointed by other stuff like uptime and so on... (Desire)

It is hard to choose a phone as all but the new s60's arent that good, maybe one of the sony-E media phones depending on what you want (I had a look at n97 before n900 was announced, now it would be a successor of them)

Desire, then iPhone. I really hate the look of these two, Samsung WAVE looks great IMHO.
