I went through a similar situation like this a couple of days back. It turned out that my N900 was dropping my connection and therefore would cause browser inconsistencies. What helped me was that I turned my wifi power saving settings to moderate. It is set to highest by default. Maybe you are experiencing the same issue?

it tries to load for a long time
it eventually comes up with the 'server not found page'

the internet connection is fine as msn stays connected perfect when i tested this

I realize that, I had the same issue with Skype, but I had complaints that I would keep appearing and disappearing online. Its worth the shot, you can always go back to your normal settings anyway. Make sure you reboot the device and clear your browse cache if u decide to do it. If it is the same bug I have faced then there's a fix coming for it in PR 1.2.

MSN being "perfectly connected" tells little about your connection status.

But, with WiFi Power save activated, to generate data going OUT wakes up the WiFi and makes it send things so if you're trying to connect to something, this should not be a problem.

Sometimes I need to use ping in an XTerminal first, to then start the browser and get data. I'm guessing this is a combination of power save and high latency in the network.

Play around a little and see what happens. Rebooting is not the answer...
