Thanks everyone for contributing to this thread. I've read all of your comments and have other sugesstions based on what you said

As you guys mentioned (ndi , xomm ,geneven ) So lets see what we can do

1. Enhanced kernel stays where it is now however lets add changes to short and long description
Such as
Short description in brackets (Read description) and then rest of the text

In long description Before the sentence Linux kernel updater.... capital letters WARNING: INSTALLING IS RECOMMENDED FOR POWER USERS ONLY or something like that

2. Encourage people who want to use kernel read WIKI and use SEARCH before posting or creating useless threads which blame kernel creators or overclockers

More suggestions are welcome

Does running this program as intended void the manufacturers warranty?

I'm not asking for reasons why it shouldn't or how to circumvent this or even if it is implied. Does the warranty expressly prohibit the modifications that this app performs?

If so... then that's the dang warning.

IMO an app that violates the warranty should never leave the developers repo. If it does then that means we (maemo.org) asked Nokia's customers to "test" it.

Sorry, it may be well-meaning; but it will not work. Please note that there are warning in place already. If the person does not want to spend time to understand what he is about to do; then there is no amount of warning messages/popup dialog confirmation box that could stop the person from hurting himself.

by the way, in your example #3, the gentleman for some reason had managed to fill the rootfs up and then followed by uninstall stuff wrongly.

cheers

If you request this from Titan, why wouldn't you just PM him, instead of opening a new thread for it? Are you trying to cast public pressure on Titan?

Overclocking will NOT void my warranty. My warranty was voided after one week, according to the contract or user's agreement.

I don't agree that only power users should overclock. Only users willing to take the risk should overclock. Overclocking is a lot simpler than lots of other things you could do. I think it's a fairly good thing for an eager newbie to do, actually. So far, the statistics here are that zero users have wrecked their N900s by overclocking. That's pretty good -- can it be said that zero users have wrecked their N900s by using them at all? No, it cannot. So having an N900 is riskier than overclocking it.

I just think it should be made sure that users have read the very strong warnings at the top of the Overclocking Wiki before they proceed. If someone here wants to be a paternal godfather to all users and protect them from all risk, it isn't me.

If a user wants to void their warranty, it's up to them. If we provide a program that MIGHT void their warranty (not in my case, I can easily prove) they can choose once fully informed.

I also have this question. And the title of the thread, "remove modified kernel from maemo.org repository" is stronger than the actual request that appears to be being made here. Why state it so strongly unless you are trying to discredit Overclocking?

The actual request, as stated, is to put a bigger disclaimer in the package. Is that the same thing as removing the package from the repository? No, it is far different.

So you should decide what you are requesting.

Don't want to be offensive, but Your request reminds me a bit of :

or

If we ( authorities, companies, manufactures ) will be trying to protect everybody from everything, replacing common sense with warnings, stickers etc soon will create world of m0rons, people who can't think logically and with problems taking responsibilities for their actions. I know You have good intention, but one visible information is enough.

Regards

1. I generally agree about letting common-sense & karma take their natural courses, but reading about silly legal cases where people managed to get money big companies like McDonalds by splashing hot coffee on their own lap make me question about legal repercussions of it. Anyway, I'd say let things take their natural course.

2. To expedite the process, how about if someone just make an app called Time Bomb which only does one thing `rm -rf /` ?
