I've got a N800 arriving this afternoon. I've been using the 770 since the Woot deal a few weeks back. I'm impressed and decided to upgrade.
I need to figure out which cell phone and cell plan with which to go. I'm a professor, and for the past five years I've biked into work. There was no need of a cell phone. I had access to wi-fi at the house and on campus; so, I've used Skype, and my wife has a very basic Verizon phone and package for road and wilderness emergencies. I figured if my bike broke I could walk home or to work, and it's nice being unconnected at times.
I just took a job in Richmond, and our whole picture has changed. Since we'll both be commuting, we need to get a new cell phone provider, family plan, and phones. Again, home and campus will have wi-fi, but I'm going to be learning a new city, so having access to the internet all over the city via a cell phone and the n800 would be nice. Problem is, I'm five years out of the loop when it comes to cell phones; and, having lived in New Mexico, the only use I could see for a data plan was in the back country where most of the time you don't have cell coverage anyway.
Here're the questions:
What cell phone works best with the Nokia N800 in terms of bluetooth pairing and using the phone as a modem?
What provider would you recommend for data and incidental voice services? I'd like access to google.maps or something like it.
What plan do you have and why?
Thanks.
