I like Dubstep, Drum and Bass and Metal music these types of music have a lot of bass but without the equalizers they don't sound as good.
The N900 has a good music player but the bass at times just sounds flat. Are there any equalizers to download for the device?

Wow my musical tastes are very similar to yours.

In addition to just bass, especially in metal I quite enjoy a nice crisp snare sound. Used to love the "Jazz" preset in my 5800XM as it brought out just this feature in music.

The N900 is however very well "EQ'd", the chip can play back a huge spectrum of sounds. Therefore I suggest you go out and get yourself a good pair of earphones. I use Sennheiser CX200 or CX300 or something like that and I'm loving it. Haven't really felt like I need those EQ presets after all.

Don't get those bass amplifying thick plugs, though. I know also Sennheiser have stooped into producing them. They're for simple folk that don't know better. The bass totally muffles out everything else with those monstrosities.

I have Sony in-ear headphones but had them for a while. Guess your right, time to buy new ones. Thinking of those new Bose Mobile in-ear headphones but quite expensive. Maybe next payday

EQ would be nice, especially balance control, but the difference a good pair of in-ear phones will knock you out. They can take a little getting used to as they feel weird at first but once you get the hang of inserting them the sound is amazing without spending really big bucks.

Added bonus, you don't have to listen to everybody else's taste in music leaking out or their mobile phone converstaions.

It would be nice to have an equalizer on the N900 as I like to listen to the unit mostly without ear/headphones and find sound a little thin but clean.
Did try symfonie but uninstalled it as it distorted the sounds too much.
When listening thru h/phones I choose either the set that came with the N900 or my Sennheiser 300s. Both seem to give reasonable bass without boominess. Sounds fine with Grado 225s as well!

Do any of the media players support plugins? That might be the way to go here...

Please do YOURSELF a favor and don't buy anything Bose. They are definitely better than many common consumer earphones, but if you really want to hear your music the way it was made, get yourself studio quality headphones. They cost the same or less than Bose, they don't look as tacky and they sound so much better! Check out any models from Shure, Sennheiser, or even Ultimate Ears(they've been bought out by M-Audio and they now offer lower end headphones).

I'd honestly say don't spend less than 100 bucks or more than 200 bucks. Check out some Shure SCL2's or Shure SCL3's. You can't go wrong with anything from those companies, in that price range. Have fun shopping!

How did this go from equalizers to head/earphones. Buying a great set of earphones is not the solution here. An equalizer is needed. It gives control. I like the plugin idea. Can't someone do it like the extra plugins for the videos?
