So just do this before trying to run it:
And then run it by doing
Where "name_of_file" is the full name of the file you're trying to run

Please, blind troubleshooting gets enormously harder by just giving the output like this.
Supply command and output together with a pwd and ls -l at the right place

Since nosa101 seems to have got his answers, I'm going to respond.
I think you mostly mean proprietary software. It's trivial to run a Linux distribution such as Ubuntu on Apple Intel hardware. However, it's non-trivial to run Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware. People use third party products to upgrade memory and disk drives all the time on Macs. And Mac users that are looking to upgrade other internals use Mac Pros. But most importantly, Macs have been using and supporting USB since its beginning. And is DisplayPort proprietary? Or is it DVI and HDMI that are encumbered by licensing? And did I forget to mention the built-in digital I/O that comes with every Mac and works with everything? Firewire is also still available on most offerings.
You're gonna have to do better than that, but I'll just mention a few obvious things:
Mac OS X: open source BSD kernel
Winblows: closed source kernel, IE and ActiveX
Stop drinking the "Windows is more secure than..." Kool-Aid.
What? Find me one loser that's still running Mac OS 9 or older and we'll both have a good laugh. Otherwise, please stop spreading this nonsense.
Yeah, I'm not sure you're clear on the concept of Mac OS X running on standard Intel chips. I run lircd on my Mac Mini for f*ck sake. X comes already installed; no Cygwin needed. Google MacPorts or DarwinPorts, that's all you really need to know. And most of the good open source stuff already have downloadable Mac OS X binaries. i.e. VLC, Audacity, ..., etc.
And I haven't even mentioned VirtualBox or Parallels.
Your research was sh*t. For less than $400 USD, go pick up a used low-end 2GB Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Mini with an Nvidia 9400 and enjoy.

You should check YOUR facts first. I was careful not to go in thw whole not upgradeable and proprietery hardware only, because one might prove me wrong.
It's a proven fact that windows and linux are much more secure. True windows will be targetted by more attacks due to number of users, but still it is more secure than a MAC. Just research it.

In multitasking MAC is just beginning to shine. Previous MACs were horrible, and this one isn't that good either. Both windows and linux multitasked very well 10 years ago.
Windows has a gazillion apps and with linux you get access to all areas on different level, which on MAC you don't. And linux is free and windows has great backwards compatability.

Fine you have your opinions and I have mine. I know what I'm saying though. My research involved actually using all of them.. Multitasking wasn't that good when compared to others.
And my lecturer who is a security specialist and tries to hack systems for testing says that Macs are not very secure, and that Apple didn't respond when he tried telling them with these vulnerabilities which gives him the right after 30 days to release it to the public.
Still if you find OS X to be good you should definately use it.
