Have NOT come across any thread about mscim problems, instead, quite some thread recommend its use, including myself. However, with more use, start to notice some problems, would like to document here to see if its only me, or it is in general

mscim in particular in conjunction with googlepinyin allows for chinese char input or search, so and so forth.

cons:
- virtual keyboard AND symbols input are gone
- cut and paste also disappear, you cannot cut/paste on web sites

pros::
- allows search char input on WorldTV99/KMPlayer

The above are two major problems for me, currently I am install/uninstall mscim on demand, ie., install it when I need it. The above are totally reversible upon install/uninstall mscim, no other side effects are noticed so far.

If you has installed mscim, did you notice similar behavior?

Some post suggest GNU Emacs instead of mscim, will take a look soon,

bun

I've uninstalled mscim but still have no virtual keyboard and no symbol input. I also have to hold fn and press a key to type the symbols mapped to the keyboard.

Not sure if it's related but I also have text input problems with Media Player. When I type-to-filter the first letter appears normally then a weird box appears in the bottom right of the screen with focus and I end up typing into it. It doesn't do anything that I've noticed (other than appear and annoy me).

Here is what I did(followed this link
http://code.google.com/p/scim-for-ma...ail?id=23#c1):

rm /etc/event.d/scim

/usr/bin/gtk-query-immodules-2.0 > /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules

rm -f /home/user/.cache/launch/com.nokia.controlpanel.pvr

Reboot, it should work, and the last step is to clean up the mscim entry in the Setting menu.
