download GNU tar and the bzip from my website

http://penguinbait.com/tar.gz

http://penguinbait.com/bzip2.gz

place them in your path

for example, copy or move them into /usr/bin

You may also need to link bzip2 to bunzip2

ln -s /usr/bin/bzip2 /usr/bin/bunzip2

I am not sure why the j option is not working, but following this it should?

I copied the file from memory card dos partition to ext3 partition in / copied the 2 files you told me to download to /usr/bin then did the following

Code:
/ # ln -s /usr/bin/bzip2 /usr/bin/bunzip2
/ # tar jxvf KDE356FINAL1.tar.bz2
tar: invalid option -- j
BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 3:1.1.3-3.osso17) multi-call binary

Usage: tar -[czxtvO] [-f TARFILE] [-C DIR] [FILE(s)] ...
Could it be cause I am running OS 2007HE on Nokia 770

It's entirely possible that the busybox version of tar doesn't accept that parameter.

I got it to work but crashes when it boots up to KDE screen. I guess the 770 just cannot handle it. Ah well it was nice to think i could run KDE

dont give up so easy, you need to figure out why its crashing, it could just be a missing lib or something?

Amazing job, penguinbait!

Thanks a lot for getting something so complex as this to actually work... and work well!

KDE is now running and pretty damned functional under the 2007HE on my 770 after creating a swap file under /

I was hoping to help a bit... so I am uploading the KDE tar.bz2 to my home server right now and I'll PM you a link to it as soon as it's up.

Hey penguin, it seems the two files are missing. Anyway to get them back online again?
And is that your car/kid/spouse/dog that the GPS is tracking?
Good ol' Flint, MI.

What two files??

The tracker was last use on my 770, I have not tried to get it working on my n800, was busy with openbox and kde.

It was initially a laptop with a sprint card, then 770 while tethered to phone and GPS.

Just been real busy lately
