I believe only maemo-extras is extras. But I might be mistaken.

Edit: numbers a few posts further down suggest I am mistaken.

yes, these downloads are only for maemo extras. extras-testing and extras-devel are not counted.

ah, I see now. Thank you.

And is there any way of differentiating unique downloads and updates?

Yes, someone made a big slip up there.

I wonder if that means more than four times that have sold or there was a big spike to start with a major drop off after that.

Re the advertising: It has varied greatly around the world, but it would appear Nokia has been doing a high level of online advertising in the USA and Australia, not sure about other markets.

Really even if the total sales are 500,000 units to date, it is small numbers for the OS given it is the only device.

And you don't think anyone has told him till now? I would think that inside Nokia the numbers are known and distributed to key players.

are you sure? i remember reading that in fact all repos are counted... it makes sense: look at the graphs that represent the download statistics for each application: fMMS for example has 260793 downloads - that cannot be 260793 since it reacched extras. The graph tells you that. It's more likely 260793 since it was first published in -devel in january.

If you get the latest version of a program, is that a download? If so, I must have thousands of downloads.

Could you folks imagine the hurt that would have came Nokia's way if the device even sold 250,000? A higher volume of buyers would suggest a lot of smartphone user's took the plunge and the features missing alone would have caused non-techs to freak out. Factor in a very low and slow app market and now the infamous Flash 10.1 aint happenin' issue..... Not to mention how easy it is to mess the device up compared to the other devices (yes, 99% is self-inflicted, but consumers tend to not think that way).

This device was never intended for the high-end masses. Had the device been made with a more phone centric interface & OS design and Nokia supported the app community like their competition does, it would all be a different story. Nokia appears to have no long-term direction and their scattered OS strategy supports this view.

Furthermore, I'd be hard pressed to believe that is downloaded to 260793 unique phones. Probably updates too, then.

Whats the hang up on how many N900 sales & download stats ?? All i know is i've got one've them and i aint bothered if its the first, the one hundred thousandth, or the one millionth. It was bought based on it's function in my hand and how it performs for me.

I enjoy the device 99.99% of the time but on 0.01% of times she likes to keep me on my toes. Reality is i dont mind the latter and consider it another one've life's learning curves. Imagine 100% predicable perfection how boring would that be.
