I bought one of the above kits. It looks to me like it is working. The N800 thinks it is charging, and the Kensington voltage boostser is blinking away.

Edit: The light is red sometimes, green sometimes. Kensington docs & google aren't telling me anything. Hmmmm.....

Any opinions yet? How is the charger working for you?

it seems to charge my n770 just fine, albeit much slower than the wall charger. and yes, i have to use the booster otherwise it won't charge.

I'm not quite sure how your 770 charged through USB. That's impossible by all my knowledge, unless you followed the guide here on how to charge via USB. There is no power going to the USB hub, you would have to solder a connection from the USB to the battery. Please see this.

Do not buy these if you just want to charge you device. Sorry bout that.

Read the thread.
Now go back and read it again.

They aren't talking about charging the N770/N800 via the USB port on the tablet itself, they're talking about recharging it from a USB port on a computer/wall plug going to the regular port port on the tablet.

Yep... Read, reread, then really look at that big picture I posted.

What does the "booster" do? A USB port puts out 5VDC @ 0.5A (max). The Nokia needs 5VDC to charge. So, what's being boosted? No matter what you do, you're not going to get more than 0.5A out of a USB port.

For those of you who have taken your N800 apart, can you measure the voltage and especially the current when charging a fairly dead battery? This would be good to know. I don't have any 2mm power plugs or sockets yet, so I can't make an adapter to measure the current myself.

Thanks.

i didn't think i'd need the booster either, but the charging icon on my n770 didn't show without it. therefore, i figured it wasn't charging. after plugging in the booster, the charging icon appeared and i left it to charge. is it possible there was enough juice to charge but not display the animation?

i don't know the answer to your question but an answer could be tucked away in this thread: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ght=usb+charge
