Hi there

After days of try and error to get lots of stuff running I found the solution in this forums. It might be a tripple post but its worth.

I had following problems on some Wifi Routers

- Mail (Send & Receive did nothing at all)
- ForcaWeather not able ot get data
- AppManager not able to download
- AppManager failed catalogues

Strang thing was it worked on 5 other wifi networks without problem.

SOLUTION

1) Settings
2) Internet-Connections
3) Choose your WLAN connection
4) Advanced
5) Set DNS Manually to the one of your ISP (Internet Service Provider)

a) Some sugested 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as DNS Server but that did not work for me
b) I fist took the DSN Servers that were shown in my Router - worked in the office but not at home
c) Went to the internet page of my ISP and got the DNS from there

And yeeehaa - Everything works.

Regards Markus

PS: For Swiss people. it seems that bluewin ADSL worked but not Sunrise ADSL

PS: Strange thing was that at home (Sunrise) my sons Samsung Jet8000 had no problems collecting mail - my N900 did just nothing.

My threads that are solved.

So what if you decide to use a differnet Wireless router say at a friend's house.

You shouldn't have to set any dns servers manually usually as your router or dns server handles that if you're using DHCP.

I do get the problem where emails do not auto fetch. It's almost like the fetch interval is being ignored.

@anaskr: What does power save do exactly - any doco?

i dont know but i have noticed when its not in the power save mode (not the phones power saver the wifi's powersaver mode which you can find by choosing your wifi's name and then going to advance option on tab 3)

it increases the speed but makes ur phone hot thats not a problem for me, atleast i dont need to wait for the webpages to open for 2 mins or so, it opens in an instant !!

@gurpal: i dont know about that !! lol

The DNS addresses can be manually set on a per connection basis, so the values for your home router and your friends router can be set independently.

a) As mentioned dns settings can be set per WiFi
b) I hade the e-mail problem at home - somehow it seems to be provider related
c) browsing worked always
d) if something does not work at friens place you need to set the dns servers only once

Yesterday with the new settings I had again the problem that

a) at home I could not get mail
b) at office I could not connect to any Messenger Accounts

I remembered having installed a bunch of Pigin stuff. After uninstalling and rebooting it worked fine again.

I don't know yet if it was the reboot (my freed dns info) or the deinsallation. Anyhone having a problem with wifi? I would be interested if any of the pidgin protocolls and MSN sutf could be causing the problem.

Regards Markus
