I think the problem may be due to reindexing of photos and media, which keeps on running until all files have been indexed and therefore may cause both temperature increase and faster battery drain. Once it has finished, the problems should go away.
I noticed my N900 getting warmer, but just for the first day after upgrade. I checked by opening xterminal and running command
top
In the %CPU column there were high values for tracker-indexer and hildon-thumbnail.

right now on my n900, there is only conky, skype, and xchat windows open, but conky is showing "browserd" taking ~90% cpu !! I wonder why. I will have to kill that process I guess, or just launch browser again and close it and see.
later ... ok i launched the browser and clicked on one of the bookmarks, during the page load process the cpu usage went way down, and now its normal. If I had not observed this through conky, wud it drain the whole battery? Yes perhaps. These things need lot of optimizations.

Admittedly, I was experimenting with the OS all Thursday and Friday, but I was thinking of asking the same question.
