After reading several topics on this forum about people updating to PR1.2, many of them seemed to get an increase in battery life.

Mine pre 1.2 was poor... I could go a full day if I was careful. Once I even had 20% left by 11pm! I use AutoDisconnect to keep internet connections closed etc... Email & calendar are synced every hour. (Despite my WM6 device being able to stay connected and push email to me for 2 days between charges, that's beside the point)

I updated to 1.2 and things got.. worse. I flashed the EMMC and the <other bit which name currently eludes me> My CPU is stuck at 100% all the time, resulting in an even shorter battery life.

According to Conky, 'hildon-home' is the culprit. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how/why it is using so much CPU time?

I did try to overclock it an hour or so ago, and all it did then was stick at 1000MHz all of the time, followed by a restart.

Any suggestions would be very welcome!

Flash to stock emmc + firmware

reboot.

Test battery before installing all the apps you have now.

Add apps one at a time, test battery

When battery life goes to crap, you know which of the apps you've installed is killing your battery.

Thanks, I found what the problem was.

Removing the Facebook widget, and adding it back again seems to have fixed the CPU problem.

I think I'm right in saying that PR1.2 doesn't support SmartReflex anymore? I relied on them to make the battery last a little longer.

hildon-home is not the culprit it's some application you installed
Try doing a fresh pr 1.2 install and check the battery life before installing any 3rd party app.

Thanks =] It was the Facebook widget in the end. But that's sorted now.

Just trying to do something to help improve my battery life further now. Might try clocking it, see what that does.

When you overclocked, what minimum freq. did you use?
I suggest you try using 3g/wifi a whole day, once without overclocking and once with overclocking - you will see the difference.
In PR1.1.1 i'd barely last a day without 3g-data/wifi.
Now I only charge at night after being connected ALL day.
I'm also messing with my phone via ssh all day so it's not idle either.

The previous overclock didn't work, so I'm gonna try again now and hopefully this one will be better and allow me to be connected all day. That's my aim.

Have you managed to OC yours so that you have an increased battery life then? If so, I'm curious what settings you used, if you don't mind?

I think that SmartReflex still works for some people, but not me.

Yes, one of the power settings associated with overclocking, such as Ideal, will probably help.

Getting spare batteries and a desktop charger might cause you not to care as much about battery usage.

What I've now done is read through this page:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power#C...from_extras.29

And am using the 'ideal' setting. We'll see how I get one with this one. I'll report back with the results =]

A desktop charger is an idea, I would like a cradle for my phone to sit in and charge.. but I can't find one yet. Maybe someone will make one soon.

I have not tried too many setups just these :
- minimum 150MHz, max 900MHz, I realized I wanted more.
- Went for min 150 max 1000, This work great for me in terms of UI performance and flash in browsers.

My setting are attached, including :
- I have "Enhanced Linux Kernel for power users" and "Enhanced Linux Kernel for power users (settings)" Installed from extras (maybe it's extras-something, I don't remember as I have them all enabled always)
- 3 icons which need to be in : /opt/usr/share/icons/hicolor/64x64/apps/
- 3 sh files which need to be in /usr/share and needs to be given execution permissions (I just did chmod 777 <filename>).
- 3 .desktop files to put these scripts in the apps menu, and also as shortcuts on the desktop.
N900 OC Scripts + Icons + Desktop Files.zip

- Putting these files in the right place take 1 min after you get connectivity to the device using sftp. If you need more info about this, feel free to ask.

My phone always boots into standard clock CPU clock, and I always click the 1000 shortcut, I just don't want it to boot into 1000...
