Hi,

I would like to upgrade to PR 1.2 , however the app manager complains that "Not memory to target location". I think i have installed too many packages in rootfs. And then I ssh to the phone and try to remove few packages.

After I did a `apt-get -f install` to remove broken packages, mp-fremantle-002-pr was also removed! And then I can't see the new firmware upgrade in "App Manager" any more.

If I want to upgrade through apt-get , what is the package name of PR 1.2 image?

Thanks for any advise.

i THINK its apt-get upgrade to update the os, but i'd do a power search first incase i'm wrong!

Distribution like Ubuntu do not suggest to call `upgrade` for release upgrade. Do meamo have similar restriction?

Seem that mp-fremantle-002-pr is already the meta package for PR 1.2 upgrade. But I can not install it again due to some dependence error.

After I have installed specific version of osso-wlan , seem that it is fine now.

I read the http://wiki.maemo.org/Free_up_rootfs_space page and cherrypicked the following:
- mkdir -p /home/user/MyDocs/apt-archive-cache/archives/partial
- relocated /usr/share/themes/{alpha,beta} to /home/user/themes
- apt-get -o dir::cache=/home/user/MyDocs/apt-archive-cache <command>

were <command>'s are 'update', 'upgrade' and 'dist-upgrade'. (Maybe I should have reversed the order or 'upgrade' and 'dist-upgrade' ?)

A lot of stuff was updated, portrait browsing, no more "more"-icon, Qt 4.6.2.

BUT the About product is still showing Version: 3.2010.02-8 instead of expected 10.2010... can anyone tell me if I'm updated ?

Update: Thank you benlau, by '# apt-get install mp-fremantle-generic-pr' fixed the rest of the updates. About product is now showing me the expected Version 10.2010...

'uname -a' gives me:
Linux Nokia-N900-42-11 2.6.28-omap1 #1 PREEMPT Thu Apr 15 09:47:09 EEST 2010 armv7l unknown

I thought that

a) it was apt-get dist-upgrade
b) HAM was a wrapper for apt, so not in HAM means not in apt
c) I'm not sure you should be forcing and update if the update isn't listed. There are people with nice issues around here (not directly from CLI, but bypassing space requirements and safeguards). You don't happen to have a custom kernel, do you?

ndi,

a) yes, but seem to be useless in Maemo. As the upgrade is represented by a meta package. Right?

b) That is the point. That is why I don't prefer to upgrade through cmd line, but as I have already removed "mp-fremantle-generic-pr". I have no way out.

c) no , I don't run a custom kernel.

By the way , all the methods listed in http://wiki.maemo.org/Free_up_rootfs_space requires CLI support. How can I bypass the space requirement not using CLI? Just interest to know.

Don't do `apt-get dist-upgrade` on maemo5 . I hava a friend did it on yesterday . The system is broken, it keeps reboot forever. He need to flash a new image.

b) If by "not in" you mean command, then it should be the other way around. if instead you mean available packages, that is not so. There are plenty of programs that show up with apt-cache search but not in HAM

c) agreed. I went with the flashing option instead of dist-upgrade, doing a back up first of course.

I'm not suggesting this method to anybody, but this is how I updated to PR1.2

sudo gainroot
apt-get update
apt-get install mp-fremantle-generic-pr

Of course apt's cache is not in rootfs. Still disk space got full, so I continue updating with:
dpkg --configure -a
apt-get install -f

Reboot.
It did something when first reboot (updates firmware of GSM maybe?). Then it asked OVI EULA confirmation (with doesn't have NO-option! Settings -> general -> My Nokia -> "Cancel ALL")

Now firmware version shows: 10.2010.19-1

Hi all,

being "brave" and dumb, i actually went ahead with apt-get dist-upgrade with the cache set on the /home/user directory (as stated in the wiki), and then only realised that the process broke somehow. Then i found this page, though i did not give up.

so i repeated the dpkg --configure -a , apt-get install -f and apt-get dist-upgrade steps, until i see no packages being offered in the apt-get response... then rebooted the machine. Similar to AapoRantalainen, it showed a bootup with Nokia logo screen, and a blue progress bar/line. Then it just stopped (i did not get the OVI EULA thing). I then start the phone again, then it just continue booting as usual.

if you are not really ready to break your N900 or to reflash it, i will not recommend this process - it is really risky if some steps in between went wrong.

and i hope my unit is working as it should (phew)
