It's beyond horrible.
It's the Paris Hilton of volume/seek controls: vapid, stupid, and should be someone's beotch in prison.

Other than that, great program!
You people need to learn how to present your ideas without being rude. I value your opinion, but I work for free. And being rude doesn't make me want to work harder. It makes me want to say "screw you" and go do other things.

Our world has come to the point that such behavior is accepted as "cute". Glad you called it to their attention.

Not liking the volume control, different but too busy.

Well said. I think I agree. I don't have time to change it by 1.0.6, but I promise to try to come up with a replacement sometime soon. Feel free to continue voting if you do like it. So far it seems that most don't.

trevarthan,
Itīs sad to see how amazingly rude that some people can be. I wanted to let you and the rest of the Kagu team know that you have done some great work to make a really amazing player.

As for the seek/volume question I think the first issue that needs to be dealt with that would really simplify things is the addition of 3 always visible buttons for - Library - Playlist - and one for a new Now Playing screen. These extra buttons would fit nicely in the empty space above the play mode button. The Now Playing screen would then be the ideal place to put a progres bar/positional slider that most people seem to prefer and a volume slider. It would also make it possible to keep the song position list that is currently used, which could be accessed by tapping the song information. As for a volume slider I donīt feel that it is as imporant as a positional slider, but if that is what people want it could also be added to the now playing screen.

Thanks again guys. A great piece of software that makes my N800 all that much better.

The positional slider is more complex because song length is arbitrary, but I have a few ideas for that as well. I'll see what I can do.

I was an "other" vote because I kind of like the volume control now that I know it's there. I didn't realize it had one either until this thread.

I really like Kagu and just like to see the various ways different folks come up with for doing things. Kagu has become my default player because it handles the mp3 tags better than Canola. I don't want to go and figure out why, either.

The volume controls are okay.

The seek control is what I really want. In fact I would like to be able to jump to a specific time tag like you can do in xmms. Also, what would be cool is to be able to jump forward and back by small fixed times (again like you can do in xmms) - not sure how you can do that with limited keys.

A slider would not be as useful for me because I don't think I would have precise control.

The existing seek control seems okay, but I do have one long audio file (58 min) and it is slow seeking through it. Also I get a different max time for the seek each time I enter the seek menu. I am sure it wasn't built for an audio file that long.

I actually found this poll because I did a search for "Kagu volume" to find out if there was any way to control the volume. Now that I know it can be done with the buttons, I actually kind of like it that way. My preference would be to have a volume icon somewhere on the now playing screen that would pull up a volume slider; if the user pressed the "zoom" buttons at the top, it could also pull up the same volume slider but control it in 10% steps. Someone before me mentioned a vertical slider for the volume which I think would be neat since it's a little different from other media players and it's closer to what I'm used to seeing on mixing boards.

As for the seek control, well, I almost never ever use a seek control since I either listen to an entire song or skip it and I haven't listened to many audiobooks. However, I find that I frequently have to use the seek control in Kagu because I keep accidentally starting a new song (or restarting my current song) when I'm trying to scroll through the song list. Then ,when I restart the song I was trying to listen to, I have to try to figure out where I was and while trying to scroll through the list of times, I hit the wrong one. For that reason, I'd like to see the seek control be a slider and/or it would be helpful to me to have different regions of the screen for scrolling the menus and selecting the menu items.

That's my experience with Kagu so far. I've only been using it for 4 days or so, but I'm liking it a lot. I appreciate the fact that you seem very active in the IT community and you actively seek your users opinions about the software you're writing. Keep up the good work!

@pepethecat: ID3 handling will be much better with the new (possibly today) release, even managed to squeeze in path/filename parsing for non-ID3 files.

@cairn: We also added the volume icon that shows up the volume adjustment view. No volume sliders yet, though

BTW I keep accidentally starting new songs too, we'll need to look into that. I think we'll be launching 1.0.6 either in a few hours, or by tomorrow morning. So stay tuned
